Neat guns. Wish I had one.

Supposedly the fastest cycling semi-auto 22 ever made.

One of the best 22autos ever made IMO.
A word to the wise....Do NOT disassemble the working parts of this gun yourself. My father was a gunsmith for 40 years and he would not touch the operating mechanism of a 66.
If you ever need work done on the action, make sure the smith is very familiar with this particular gun.

they have a teflon plastic dry lube built into the action. they were marketed and meant to be self lubricating as far as the action goes.

There was an article about them in G&A a few years ago. I have never fired one.

My Father LOVES his. I second the don't take it a apart thing. Dad took his apart once and, with way too much kicking and cussing, got it back together. The problem was that it wasn't exactly right. The first time he pulled the trigger it went full auto and didn't stop until it emptied the tube mag. I wasn't there, but I remember the smile on his face when he got home. He said he wrote my mother's name in an old junk car's door. (how's that for love?) He had it fixed shortly after that. Please remember that this was in the seventies and the law would have a MUCH different view of things now.
Thanks!!!
Matt

I grew up shooting one that was purchased in the late 60's.
It is my favorite 22 of all time.

I have one that I got back in the 70's. I traded a friend $40 worth of CB Coaxial cable for it. He only shot a couple of boxes through it and I have not ever shot it. I also have a like new Winchester 490 auto that I got from him. It hasn't been shot much either. I gave him $100 for it. I know the 66 is good because my brother has one that he used to shoot coons with when they were bringing all the money back then. We used to float the rivers and shoot them at night(up until they made it illegal). He used the 66 and I used my 16 ga. 870 with #2 magnums when they were running or moving shots. Never tore up a pelt(I shot for the head every time). Most fun I had hunting anything anywhere.

CTK3 if the rifle is in good shape, and has not been modified, it is a collector's item, and should not be modified in any way! If it is "MINT" you made a good find if you got it cheap! Congratulations

PS: If you find one of the black "APACHE", or the Brown "Mohawk" they are even more disirable to collectors, and the top of the line is the Remington Nylon 66 Bicentenial Commorative!

Do a search on GOOGLE for Remington Nylon 66, nylon 12, and nylon 76, and 77 rifles for collector's forums! They were made from 1966 to 1971

My father still has his. the white diamond signature stock. I used it so much that it was well self lubricated. He still has it in the bedroom on the wall. I'm sure i will get it and pass it down to my sons. Fine .22
