Last season was bad for us on out lease. We didn't see very many deer until the last week or two fo season. Given the trafic & number of deer on our game cams, I'm expecting a much better year. A lot could change by november, but things are looking good. How about in your area, are you guys seeing more deer on cam? what are the early predictions for this years deer season?

I'm in north east texas (cass co).

We are seing a lot of deer in our area (east tx/Nac Co), since one of the areas we hunt has grown up a lot since it was clearcut, the deer are now using it as a bedding area. When we go out at night spotlighting hogs, it is nothing to see 10-30 deer bedded up in the field where my main stand is located.

Making the trip home in a cpl of weeks to push a new food plot w/ the dozer that will make for a sweet set-up.

Gonna suck for horns. We are in an extended drought, the weather man calls it "extraordinary" in scale. Already found one mature buck dead, he scored 159.

Drought + ARs = sucky 2009/2010 season for buck harvesting....my prediction. Hope I'm wrong!

I don't know what the weather man says, but I don't think we are in drought up here in Bowie/cass co. area. I'm sure it's drier than normal, but seems like there is Plenty of water in the lakes/creeks/sloughs/rivers etc. & we have had a decent amount of rain since Nov ... but that all could change by time hunting season gets here.

The Tyler-Longview-Henderson-Jacksonville area forecast is showing 100 degrees for each of the next four days.

It won't take many of those to dry things up quickly-and this is only the third week of June...

Saw 4 good bucks the other day at around 3:30
1 small buck had a nice set of horns
2 of the other bucks had an average set, and the 4th was a small set
Coryell County-hot and very dry

I'd say it would be a good year to put out a water trough for the deer

I hunt in Eastland county. it will be my 1st year there. I havent had a chance to get up there and put up my cams yet. I do see plenty of deer and hog sign around feeders. They have had a pretty good amount of rain up there from what the landowner tells us. I hope it turns out ok. I should have my cameras up within another week or 2.

May not be a drought right now but summer is here, so by the time Archery season hits, who knows!

Young County-had plenty of rain but the ten day forecasts calls for 100+ temps and no rain. Was out there last weekend and the brazos river was flowing very well and all of our tanks were full. Area is very green. Protein feeders are getting hit hard and millet and black eyed pea crops have exploded. Lots of potential shooter bucks hanging around. Hopefully they will stay through November.

I always thought the higher the stress, the better for the hunter... I don't want the population to be under stress, but that's when the hunter controls the situation. Provide the water and food, at the same time every morning, and you will know where the deer you nursed all year are going to be...

Great question for a post.

This will be our third year under the recent TPWD antler restrictions. Last year, my partner admitted that he was wrong being critical when they were first implemented back in 07. As he put it back then, "Heck, it's hard enough to see a buck now. And they want to make it even harder." Last season, after seeing more bucks than ever, and taking his best yet, he quickly changed his tune.

The draught will no doubt take a severe toll on the coming season, unless we start getting a lot of rain very soon. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing some of those very nice two and three-year olds that I let pass last season. With a little luck, I might even catch a five or six-year buck chasing a hot doe.

New lease in Young county and don't know what to expect. The three tanks on our place are in good shape, it's still fairly green and I hope that bodes well for the season. Hope is all we have sometimes.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

I'm guessing they will be pretty concentrated around the feeders as dry as it has been now. Everything green is burning up quick. IMO quality should be about average. I have a feeling rain may be hard to come by until November when El Nino kicks in.

Guys try this I know what you are going to think but bare with me. Some need water and lot's of it we took alot of water hose and ran it to a trough in the middle of the field we put a y at the end of that one and ran another trough so on and so on now we have water everywhere on the ranch from one water outlet at the house. I know it's alot of hose but do it alittle at a time it works and the animals will love you for it and you will bring more game to your place. You will be amazed at the deer you will see at the two closest to the house anything will work just get them the water and it will get better.

We've being getting more than usual rain in the panhandle this year. Was up there couple of weeks ago and have never seen it this green for this time of year. I predict an excellent season in the panhandle.

I AM IN EASTLAND COUNTY. HARDLY ANY RAIN. ALL OUR TANKS ARE EMPTY,EXCEPT FOR ONE. AND IT IS OHLY A GREEN SLIME PUDDLE. SO BAD THE CATTLE GUY HAD TO MOVE THE COWS OFF. BRIGHT SIDE IS THAT THIS IS OUR THIRD YEAR AN THE PLACE AND WE HAVE FED YEAR ROUND (all this time), THEY ARE EATING MORE PROTEIN THAN IN PAST AND I PUT IN A FOOD PLOT THIS SPRING. THEY HAVE HAD MORE TO EAT THIS YEAR AND WE ARE SEEING MORE DEER ON OUR CAMERAS.
I THINK WE SHOULD SHOULD SEE MORE DEER BUT DON'T KNOW HOW ANTLERS WILL BE YET. HOPING FOR A GOOD SEASON. WE ARE WORKING TO BRING IN MORE DEER AND TO PRACTICE SELECT HARVEST TO INCREASE ANTLERS.

Just returned from my lease outside of Menard. They are having a great year for rain. Grass is knee to thigh high and plenty green. As I left this morning, that area was getting another 1-2" at least (it was pouring).

Could be a good year for the Brady/Menard/CenTx area.
