Ok so I've talked myself out of a box trailer so I want to get a nice Tandem Axle Utility trailer. Who is the best? I have looked at Diamond C and Big Tex. Looking at 16' with folding ramp.
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Whatever you get, get a pipe top. Not sure what you are going to use it for but I have expanded metal covering from the floor to the rail and love it. When the gate is up nothing can fly out of the trailer through the side openings. Also my gate folds flat onto the trailer which is nice if you are hauling something that is bigger than the length of the trailer. It’s a Parker performance.

Yes pipe top for sure. Price on these things is shocking to say the least. I will mostly be hauling Mule with dog box and large 155 qt cooler up front, will probably mount a tool box up front too.

I believe many places don't make those in house.
If you put an expanded metal ramp on the back it will have considerable drag going down the hwy and will manifest itself in lower fuel mileage etc. I would look for a folding ramp one if possible.
It's hell eatin em live

Only folding ramp I have found in stock is Diamond C. but it has a dent in the fender. Folding gate on the Big tex is 10 week wait.

If you put an expanded metal ramp on the back it will have considerable drag going down the hwy and will manifest itself in lower fuel mileage etc. True, but not with the Mule on it. My Big Tex ramp could easily be taken off, now it took some finessing and practice to get that thing back on by yourself! The usual tall ramps also help keep things in the trailer going down the road, would rather have that, than not. Charlie

The gate is a nightmare on fuel. I prefer my slide in ramps due to the wind drag and the fact that most of the gates cant support much weight, ie tractor, carc etc if you ever need it. Not to mention they will limit you if you ever need to haul something slightly longer. I opted for brakes on one axle, led lights, all wiring runs through conduit and my jack is bolted on. I had 2 trailers with welded jacks and they are a pita to replace when they bend or break. 100% pipetop as others have said. Makes it nice when you want to add a front mounted winch above the rail. Dexter or Lippert are the ones I'd run. The no names have terrible warranties and poor workmanship. Nothing worse than a broken down trailer that's loaded.

I haven't seen many bi-fold ramps that didn't rip at the hinge. I would go with a slight dovetail and a 30"-36" tall ramp on the back

Just got a good out the door price on a 16' x 83" pipe top Diamond C with folding Gate, new spare tire & wheel, recessed led lights, 7,000 lb GVWR, brakes on rear axle, real powder coat finish, etc. Thinkin he made a sale. I was really not wanting the 83" width but for the price, I think I may bite.

Ask the seller - if it has cross members on 24" centers or the optional 16" on center. And, if the bi fold ramp gate is the non reinforced / standard or the optional heavy reinforced / tractor ramp gate. 205/75r15 or 225/75r15 tires.
If 16" OC, heavy ramp gate, 225 tires = very good trailer.

Pretty nice feature and I still get a full ramp when I need it.
