My son comes home and tells me about a lecture they had to attend for his Money Matters class (about finance and spending). A lady came in to "persuade" them to go vegan. She talks about how bad eating meat is and so on. She had some kids stand up in front and make them crouch down and pretend that they were in a small cage like a chicken is. I understand how you could discuss the different food life styles out there in health class. But being "persuaded" to become a vegan in a public school in 9th grade has me bent out of shape. My wife thinks I may be a little over the top on this one. But I'm pretty pissed about it.

I'm with you on this the three R are all that should be taught at schools, I would add history
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

A friend came over this weekend, his young daughter was preaching to me about how bad it is to eat meat.. I kinda nodded and kept going on my plate of ham and turkey. I don't know how these schools are going to be fixed, if it's not done soon then we will have a country full of dumasses, like the soviets left in Russia.
This cannot be fixed at the voting booth.. Wake Up You Morons!

I would contact the principal and go have a civil discussion abiut it. Politely let your opinion be known that vegan, basically, propoganda has no place in a finance class. (But I am impressed that they're even trying to have that type of class. Kids need it.)
You might point out that it doesn't make financial sense because, in my opinion, vegans eventually require more healthcare, costing more out of pocket expenses, when their attention seeking lifestyle finally "comes home to roost." ( How's that for a chicken analogy?)
If we don't push back, the loons will brainwash our children.

Yeah, that would piss me off too. I would do a whole lot in response to that. Depending on other factors, I might even remove my kid from that school. And I ain’t kidding.
Reason #1642 why I don’t live in a metro area.

Myself and my wife would be on your side.... trying to take my wifes steak away would be like trying to take a hungry dogs bone! you'd get a bit hand.
I see some weird stuff early on with our kids in school too. So far its just daycare and my boy, thankfully, is in a Christian preK. We just try to teach them as right as we know and ignore the rest.

Cathy went though that phase and brought one home with her several years ago. She grew out of it. Just got the notification of a shipment from Omaha Steaks that she sent me for Christmas.

When our kids were in school I would have been at the school the next morning. I had no trouble letting teachers know that they were not supposed to impose their personal beliefs on my kids. If that didn't work I always had an ace in the hole......the president of the school board was my next door neighbor and he actually had the same mindset.

Up here in the sticks our school system is still smart enough to realize that God gave us K9 and incisor teeth designed to eat meat with. We'd have all flat teeth like a cow otherwise.

Grayson county has about the worst school ratings around. And about the highest property tax rate in the state. So don't brag about this school system.

I emailed her a thank you. Here was her reply. "Cool! I wanted to try to time it so that it got there on the 24th, but it wasn't letting me choose that option---and they were having a pretty awesome Cyber Monday sale. Half off! I was able to get their premium filets. "

Being Vegan is a lifestyle choice and should be mentioned in health class as an option for eating healthy. Having a lecture in Money Matters class is simply a teachers way of spewing her view with no other outlet.
I am not vegan and never plan to be however, my hunting buddy due to health reasons has been on a vegan diet for about 2 months. His wife joined him and they both say they have not not felt this good since high school. Both have lost weight, lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol. They will be incorporating organic meat and fish back into their diet, but only moderately because they enjoy the way they feel. Watch The Game Changers on Netflix, interesting documentary on eating vegan.
This has made me hungry, time for a jerky stick.

Yep, I'd be bent out of shape too. I'd be curious to see how a letter to the school or a meeting with the school goes. I would do a letter at bare minimum. Preferable a meeting set up with them.

I'd be livid and pounding down the principal's door. I don't care what anyone eat's, but don't push your lifestyle on me. My cousin is a vegan and started in. I told her to STFU as she'd just murdered a head of lettuce.
Subject never came up again.

This has made me hungry, time for a jerky stick. Is Vegan a "healthy" choice? I thought it was more of a tree huger choice? I really don't know though, I don't care to participate either way.

Having a lecture in Money Matters class is simply a teachers way of spewing her view with no other outlet. This right here. Unless that lecture included a comparison of costs for different diets, compared secondary costs for one type of menu over another, this is inappropriate modification of the curriculum to foist propaganda. Go hit the teacher upside the head with a large frozen chuck roast.
