They're tough as nails, run forever off one battery and just plain work. The red dot itself has nothing to do with returning to zero that all has to do with the mount. LaRue, ADM, YHM all make good QD mounts for the Aimpoint Pros.

I have a Vortex Sparc II on mine. It comes with the blocks to absolute co-witness(the way mine is set up) or bottom 1/3. Checked lots of reviews and checked with some individuals who had this before I bought. It works fine for me.

I have been using an Aimpoint PRO for several years. I replace the battery every other Christmas. It just works.
I have recently tried the Sig ROMEO5 and they have worked well.

The Burris AR332 is on mine. I like the horseshoe reticle with multiple hold points vs. a single dot. Battery is seldom used but currently 4+ yrs. old.

The pro will probably go on sale next week. Watch places like LA Police gear
It should be $350-400, if you pay $500 for a pro you suck at shopping
The vortex isn’t in the same professional level as the pro

I'm not a huge fan of red dots, due to batteries, illumination/brightness issues, and size of red dot. I prefer the 1x prism sights. I run this Vortex prism sight on my AR pistol and love it. It works with no battery and also has illumination if I want it. I really like these. https://vortexoptics.com/catalog/product/view/id/1716

For me there is no one answer, it depends upon what fits best for the gun in question.
I will say that I have more Sig Romeo 5's than anything. At right around $100 they are hard to beat and when looking for a GOOD low cost alternative to have an absolute co-witness with AR sights, it's one I choose most often.
Now on my higher end AR's (Noveske and DD) I do up it a little more to a Holosun HS503C. I also have a Trijicon MRO that I just bought that I like a lot. Found it used for $300 and thought it was worth a try at that price (beats the $550 retail).
If I have something with real low sights - say my mp5k or a scorpion evo, a Burris TRS 25 is very cheap but reliable and again provides me an absolute cowitness with the low sites (see I have a common thread there, I love absolute hate lower 1/3rd).

Earl I have a Bushnell TRS25 mounted low as possible on a Ruger PC9 and have it sighted in at 50 yards. I can still use my iron sights, barely, but it hits 3" lower. No problem since the main use is for 2 legged critters that should know better. With the dot, I can put 15 rounds inside a 3" circle at 50 yards shooting fairly rapid, less than 10 seconds. Have 2 friends that have those Romeo's and they swear by them. One other guy has the Holosun and he loves it.
