What’s the best “Advice” or “Information” that you’ve got at the gun store/counter? Some of the ones I can remember:

-Don’t put a grip plug in your Glock. When you shoot the gun, air goes out the hole in the grip and the plug can cause your Glock to malfunction.

-I’m looking at an Uzi. “That’s what you need for clearing rooms.”

-Competitive shooting will get you killed on the streets

-Glocks don’t jam

-AK’s don’t jam

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I saw a gun counter employee tell a customer that the 9mm Makarov was the same as 9mm luger. It was just made in Russia. I stopped the customer on the way out and let him know that it would not work for his gun.

You just need to pump a shotgun and that will send the bad guy running.

Small .38 revolvers are great for women because you don't have to mess with the slide and they don't jam.

You don't need to clean (blank gun). Insert: AK, Glocks, AR's, etc

You don't need to aim with a shotgun for home defense.

This (blank) is just as good.

If you own a suppressor the government can come into your house whenever they want without a warrant.

So many more I can't think of right now.

A guy told me he shot an elk at 800 yards by holding even with the elk's back. With the round he was shooting, it was about a 400 yard shot. After he was so adamant, I proved it to him that it wasn't 800 yards and he was pissed I ruined his story. I try not to sit around a gun counter. Crap is so deep you need waders.

The more I actually learn the more I want to choke people in public. This started about 15 years ago and is escalating out of proportion the last few years.

I watched a kid disassemble a Beretta to show the customer how easy it was and then not be able to get it back together, I finally reassembled it for him

The 308Win cannot match the ballistics of the 30TC.

Watched a guy sell someone a Nightforce 8-32 scope for his new 16 inch barreled 5.56 AR for hog hunting at night. Wonder how that went

you need to get a Remington 700 instead of the Tikka you came in looking for since the Remington will always be more accurate.

Saw one getting 45 colt ammo for a customer buying a 1911, hey it is 45 it will work

Partition bullets will blowup and not penetrate on impact with a deer

Factory ammo will always be better and out shoot reloads

Your 12 year old really needs a youth rifle since he is so young (the kid was at least 5'8")

That's the one with the red tips on them, right?

The guy working the gun counter at Gene Taylor's Sporting Goods in Gunnison, CO advised me the 6.5 Creedmoor is a great caliber if you want to shoot targets. Surprisingly, he made no reference to the caliber being ahead of others for taking wild game.

The overall best gun counter experience I've ever had was at Carroll's Gun Shop in Wharton back in '99 when I purchased by youngest daughter's Browning A-bolt. It was the first and only time I've had someone working a gun counter explain to me every detail about the firearm I was purchasing from them.

I'll also give a very honorable mention to the older employee working the counter at Academy who advised me to remove the bolt from the packing and make sure it always stayed in the rifle, except for cleaning of course. Anyone who has ever had to purchase a replacement bolt would know why.

Yeah, it’s really only good for targets and tame game.

When looking for 300Weatherby Mag ammo at Walmart (yes they use to sell it) the guy tells me the 300 Win Mag ammo is the same and much cheaper.

This goes both ways. When working in a gun shop, I had a customer come in with a blued S&W 38 Special and wanted to know how much it would be to "stainless it". After looking at the tag on a stainless 38 I had, I told him that price, and that he would need to fill out a form I had.

I had a guy tell me that a smoothbore shotgun barrel with sabot slugs was the way to go because the rifling just cuts into the plastic and it won't fly right. The bead would be dead on at 100 yards!

Had another tell me that the Rem 700 Long Range stock was either Manners or McMillan-

The counter guy at Arlington Academy told a guy yesterday to put his 1911 in the leather holster he was buying and steam it over a pot of boiling water to get it to fit good.😳

Surprised to hear this from the guy working the counter at SWFA one day last week talking to a guy ahead of me in line..
