At 7:50 had a doe trot out with 3 bucks hot on her trail. They were running fast. 2 8s and a fork horn. Yesterday morning watched 2 bucks getting after it. Not just sparring but really getting after it. It's almost 'showtime'.

I saw some interest this morning with the buck activity. My rut starts in about 4 to 5 weeks in normal years. I saw 5 bucks this morning which was the most I have seen in one sit all bow season. One 5x5 buck was a new one that I have not seen nor had on TC pics over the last couple of months. The bucks were whipping brush and sparring while some were dogging the does. I could tell with the does how skittish they were and watching their trail they came in on. Should get better this next couple of weeks with buck activity. Best morning hunt I have had since season opened this year. It was 70 when I left the barn and it felt much cooler as I dropped off the hill to the blind.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?

Bucks up in southern OK were still grouped up on camera at least. last night after the front rolled in had several groups of bucks show up. Hoping this cooler weather gets them excited, sure has me excited.

Some does will cycle in earlier than others, when a buck smells the right scent it can be on. I watched a 3 year old 8pt chasing a doe around several years ago today and she stood for him and it was on.
Most of the activity is still a while off but I have seen fawns as early as mid April in Lampasas and Eastland county. Do the math and figure when those does were breed.

Had a doe try to come to a feeder this morning and the 4 bucks at the feeder took off and followed her out of sight.

back in the 60s, my uncle would go sit in his tree stand after work starting late Sept.... and just watch till dark. Once he started seeing chasing and the bachelor groups breaking up, he would go home and mark his calendar for 28 days later, usually mid-late November. Back then, the deer season opened on the first Saturday following Nov. 16 ... he would usually put down 2 good bucks the first time he went hunting, on about the 28th day he had marked on the calendar. He hunted for the meat only, not the experience, and would likely be one of the few days he spent in the woods. Also back then, it was TPWD landowner issued doe permits, and he gave those to his kids for his place.
it is very possible the does could hit their first cycle any day now depending on area of the state ... which few will get bred but the bachelor groups will start breaking up... hoping this weekend will be just that at our place near Fairfield, especially with the coming cool front to help kick it in gear.

Yessir, and that was why the season was standard to most of Texas as the rut was kicking in most everywhere around that time with the exception being deep south Texas. I killed my first buck on the season opener back then that was full on chasing a doe. Fond memories, and I was always a little bummed back then because I thought the season wasn't long enough. It was basically only about six weekends, and hard to concentrate on my school work.
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Saw the beauty of an 8pt this morning along with 4 other bucks. Three were absolute monsters. Unfortunately those 4 were on the neighbors property. Acorns are everywhere. Bucks this morning were all moving around quickly looking for love. Come on saturday morning. Gonna' be cold too. Perfect hunting weather

I was watching some bucks chasing this weekend, although it wasn't really as much chasing as it was harassing. The doe are not there yet...

I saw a nice buck Sunday morning that was broken off an inch above his head on the right side and missing a brow on the left. A buddy of mine in a different county saw a broke off buck too last weekend.

I saw a dead 6pt on 35 between 121 and the lake, so they are definitely chasing in the concrete jungle

I have video of young deer chasing early Oct in Montague. Have to practice. Have three fresh new scrapes right by the feeder for once.
