I had been looking for a while around Brown/Callahan county for a place, using all the lease sites, papers, whatever I could find. One of the places I called asked if I found their ad in the "American Classifieds", which I did not. Anyways, after that, I actually placed a "looking" ad in the hunting section of the Abilene edition and received several calls directly from landowners with very reasonable rates - as low as $10/acre in that area which seems hard to find these days. I am on a place now, but have some info if anyone is interested from other calls I received. 1000 acres, 5 mi SW of Cross Plains, Callahan County - (325) 735-2932 @ $10/acre 400 acres in Putnam just of I-20: He wants 4 or 5 hunters @ $1500 ea, Jim (325) 669-4619

Good deal! A few others on here have done that. I just got on one in Montague for $10 an acre on 1,000 acres. 6 total hunters. The lease reports have listings $20 to $30 an acre up there. You'll never see the published anywhere most of the time.

I used to put ads in the local papers all them time. I got leases every year I put an ad out there.
