I put the cigs down New Year’s Eve this past year. It was tough at first but I think I am over the hump now. My work is tailor-made for smoking and drinking with all the stress and socializing.
Funny thing is, I didn’t really plan to quit and never made a big deal out of it. I just put the last one out at 11:59 and said to myself, “I wonder if I can make that the last one ever?”
I know how hard it can be so stay strong boys...
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

It’s easy I dip a lot.... a lot... but I could stop it faster than drinking.. I dropped a pk a day cig habit cold turkey.. lots of gum and sunflower seeds.. you’ll be fine You traded crack(cigs) for cocaine(dip/snuff) essentially. I quit both. You should too. We can start up again once we make it to see our grandkids born. That’s my plan at least I should for sure.. maybe soon

I quit about 5 years ago... I dipped at least a can a day of skoal wintergreen for bout 24 years. My 7 year old daughter (at the time) came home crying because she learned in school that I was giving myself cancer, and she thought I wanted to die and leave them behind...quit that day and haven't looked back since! Best decision I ever made! Wasn't easy, but if you have a good enough reason, you can do it! I can't think of a better reason than being around as long as possible for my family!

Never to late to quit. My grandsons are 16 and 18 and I just quit smoking a couple of months ago. If I can quit after nearly 50 years anyone can.

closing in on a year of no tobacco. No weed in over 2 years plus and have cut back the drinking by 90 percent over the last year.
If you want to quit then you can do it too. I might relapse/start again at any moment but for now its all good and much cheaper not having the habits.

I quit on 11-12-13, a little over 6 years ago. had dipped everyday of my life for 30 years (even while in hospital having appendix taken out). The old saying "if I can quit, anyone can quit" while true isn't that helpful, my reason for saying that is this. For years I had people asking me to quit (wife, kids, parents, friends, Dr's, etc..) some would tell me if I can quit so and so you can to. Well the truth of the matter is if YOU don't want to quit, you aren't going to quit. It has to be your decision and yours alone. Is it hard absolutely, but if you won't do it for yourself how and why would you do it for anyone else. I had tried to quit before because the wife had asked or the Dr. had scared me, but I didn't really want to so it never worked. Until the day I asked myself do you want something in a can to have as much power over you as this snuff does? You can't do certain tasks without it, you panic if you don't have it with you, it's the first thing on your list of things to get for a trip, etc.. etc.. I was tired of something so trivial having a hold on me so I decided I wanted to quit and told my self about a month before I was going to do it on November 11th, 2013 so it would be easy to remember 11-12-13. I still have my last can of snuff, and when I go into the local convenience store one of the older clerks still smiles when I look over his shoulder at the snuff and shake my head. One other perk when I quit I saved the money I was spending and eventually went and bought my UTV with it. When YOU want to quit YOU can quit. Good luck to all of those in the process, and congratulations to those that have made over the hump and can laugh at the cravings.

Think of it as a low class thing to do. It cured me of all tobacco. There is some wisdom here. Once you quit you look back at all the times you dipped in public and you will get kind of embarrassed. At least I did
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

At least I did I still hate smokers worse and their litter thrown everywhere I look. I would ban smoking nationwide if I had the power to do so.

I remember as a kid we would all go out to eat, at that time the question after how many in the party was “smoking or non smoking”?
There would be 6 or 8 of us at a table and all my aunts, uncles and parents would be smoking at a table while eating. To me looking back that’s pretty nasty but at the time we thought it was normal.
I’m not totally anti smoking ( like at a bar for instance , I can see where that would be acceptable ) but by and large I’m glad that has gone out of style.
I know people who used to smoke while laying in bed. Always had to worry about knocking over an ash tray as a kid too
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I quit smoking after 50 years back the end of July. Some days I never think of smoking and some days I'd really like to smoke just one, but I don't.

$6ea- 2/day $12X365 days a year $4,385 per year, on a normal basis if I’m able to keep it to 2
Just 10 past years adds up to $43,850 I could have invested in. . . . . WHO knows! Anything! Smdh.

My dad quit cigarettes after more than 40 years. Said the urge never left him. He just learned to ignore it. I quit cold turkey after 50 years of smoking 2 months ago and my cravings are as strong some days as they were on day one, but I refuse to let it beat me. Hang in there Mike, you can do it. Just imagine how disappointed you would be if you did smoke again.

6 months in and still haven't smoked 1 time. I still have cravings at random times but I think it's more of kicking the mental habit than the addiction to nicotine. At this point I don't see me ever picking another cigarette up.

Funny that this thread just popped up. I used to smoke, and transitioned to dipping a few years ago. My wife quit as of a few days ago, and I told her that when my can went dry, it was my last can. Well, I just spit out my last dip about 10 minutes ago. I have been nursing this can for 4 days, so I have already been cutting back and at least it won't be cold turkey. Wish me luck!

It'll only happen if you want it too. Nicotine is gone from your system in 3 days, so after that it's mental, and just trying to beat the habit. Watch the weight gain, I noticed I snacked a lot more when I quit. You have a dip in, it keeps you from eating, without one and I was always shoving food in my mouth.

I dipped for many years but quit last July, and that's because the country where I'm currently located for work ALL smokeless tobacco is against the law to even posses. Along with chewing gum and a long list of other things. I'm not about to get jailed, fined, caned, and then fired over a dip of snuff lol.

Quit smoking 2 years ago, and now I’ve had my last dip after 15 years. Been clean for 6 days now.
