Howdy, I am looking at investing in a crossbow for the first time. I am a college student, so money is very tight. That being said, I also am aware that crossbows are not the cheapest, so I am open to many suggestions. I don't even know where to begin, so if anyone would like to chime in and give some advice on buying a 'beginner' crossbow that'd be great. smile

Agree on Centerpoint. Seem to be a good value for the dollar.

Field and Stream store currently has Barnett Gamecrusher on 35% off, $279 vs $449 normal. 350-375 fps and good kinetic energy, 120lbs. I'd take a look at this one...

10pointer has a Barnett Jackal pkg for sale in the classifieds for a fair price. I shoot a Jackal & it performs just fine for pigs, deer.

Another Vote for the Centerpoint Sniper 370. Less than $300 and you have everything but a case and broadheads. Comes with Xbow, bolts w100 gr field points, scope sling and cocking rope.

Trigger is crappy but there is a kit to make it better out there, or ya can just learn the trigger.

There definitely are some bargains out there on new & used crossbows. I suggest you hold back some of your budget to buy some quality "spined" arrows. From what I can tell, the ones that come in the combo kits are usually junk.

I bought a KI Ripper 415 NIB off ebay for $300 & then spent about $50 on half-dozen proper arrows. Lifetime warranty & it groups arrows so close you can only shoot one-at-time at bullseye to avoid damage.
