Dang, that stuff is more than nasty. Someone needs to loose their license and do some jail time. Not sure how or even if you can clean this stuff up.

I just don't get how these big ships run into each other, seems you could see something so large and avoid it.

Dang, that stuff is more than nasty. Someone needs to loose their license and do some jail time. Not sure how or even if you can clean this stuff up. A nasty combination of naphtha and benzene.

If it isn't contained, cleaned up or burned off and flows/gets into the gulf it could be devastating for all aquatic life, fish, shrimp, oysters and the business's that depend on them.
I haven't heard an estimate of the actual quantity leaked / spilled or if the capsized barge is leaking.
I did hear an unconfirmed estimate given for toxicity levels & long term impact on aquatic life making it dangerous to unfit for human consumption, I can't find that report/estimate again & I don't recall the figures stated.

So can it be contained on top of the water and pulled off or does it go in the sludge on the bottom with all the stuff from the last fire ?

Those tugboat capitans make a pretty good living. There was one in out field trial club that was a high roller. He left his dogs with a trainer and never returned. There was a lady one who was eventually arested for killing her husband in California and changing her name. Guess they are not the brightness.
