I have wondered what would happen if: You bought your kids a Texas Lifetime Combination Licenses when they are young and when they grow up move outside the state. Would it still be good for them to use?
If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

dogcatcher is correct! That is one of the huge pluses to a LT license.

I always said to myself that if I move out of Texas I am buying it, so I can hunt here inexpensively.

Wish I had done it years ago when I could have gotten one for $500. I've spent at least twice that since then.

The year before they raised the price from $1000 to $1800 for the lifetime, I bought myself and my son a lifetime license. That was some years ago. At $68 super combo price, it will pay for itself in 14 years or less (if the price of a super combo doesn't increase, which it will). I think it's a great gift. Every year, I tell my son I have a present for him in Sept when we go get our new license. He laughs and shakes his head now, but when he gets older he'll really like it!

I got mine in July 1991 as a 30th birthday present to myself. Back then it was just the license, you still had to pay for stamps/tags. Then in the mid' 90s they switched it to all inclusive. Best investment I may have ever made.

I did the exact same thing, but also bought $250 lifetime Oklahoma fishing licenses for the family at the same time. No longer available to OK non residents. We are already ahead on the money invested in those.

So how does that work if you are a non resident?

Non residents of Oklahoma used to be able to buy Oklahoma lifetime licenses. At a cost much higher than Oklahoma residents of course, but still at a bargain price compared to what a lifetime license cost in Texas. Oklahoma stopped selling the non resident hunting license several years ago and stopped selling the non resident lifetime fishing license just a few years ago. Louisiana is the last state I know of that still sells non resident lifetime licenses. It was $3,000 for a LA non resident lifetime combo last time I looked. It would not be a bad deal for a young person living in Texas near the Louisiana border IMHO.

just before they jumped from $1000 to $1800, I bought one for my son as a birthday present that should easily pay off. My dad bought my hunting license up until I was in my 20s as that is what he always bought me for my birthday. I evaluated buying a lifetime license for myself, but it didn't make financial sense at my age since I would hit exempt status before too long.
I worked with a guy that was a chief engineer on multiple aerospace programs which caused him to move a lot. He bought a lifetime license in every state while he lived/worked there and had 7 different state LT license. which I thought was pretty cool ....

That is exactly why I bought life time licenses for the entire family. I am sure if we moved we would come back to hunt with family.

Exactly what my brother did for his kids before moving from Texas to Oklahoma. Wasn’t sure if they would ever live in Texas again but wanted to make sure they could always hunt here as a Texas “resident.” Of course, they moved back a few years later. Wish I would have done it years ago. Won’t pay for itself now. Need to get them for my kids.
