What's your go to shop in San Antonio and why? I'm specifically looking for a shop that carries precision rifles, top quality components and optics. Thanks in advance.

If you're coming in from Menard, you might try that Apache Rifleworks on the access road just east of Comfort. I haven't been there myself, but have heard okay, but not stellar, stuff about it.

I've been to Mission Ridge on 1604 on the northside once, because my son gave me a gift card there. Huge place, very high prices, but they may have something you're looking for.

Don's Gun Shop, on LP410 at Fbg. Rd. is, I think, the best gunsmith in the city. But it's old school, small, dusty, and his daughter that handles the counter is a crank-patch. But his attitude has improved - I think he got his teeth fixed. laugh
No precision rifles or optics.

Thanks,

Can you tell me anything about Nardis? Growing up my dad was a big Nagel's guy. I went in there for the first time in decades last year and I was a little disappointed. It was not what I remembered.

My problem with Nagels is they treat their customers like an inconvenience. I will never do business with them again.

May give Durrys a try.

Apache Rifle Works has the items you are looking for, but they do know everything, just ask them.

Montechema Firearms is on main street Boerne, have not been there myself but I have heard good things about them from a guy I shoot with.

Another shooting buddy swears by Durry's.

Second the Nagels comment last time I was there it was a chore for them to go look in the back for the gun I wanted to look at. Have not returned nor do I plan to.

Nagel's has been a PITA my entire life. I don't go in there unless I absolutely have to; that last time was 10+ years ago.

Dury's is a good shop, but way on the southside. I must have met a thousand guys that say ol' man Dury was "a personal friend" of theirs. 'Always had a good reputation.

Don't know anything about Nardis except they bought some property by Rolling Oaks Mall for another location a couple of years ago. It was a piece of property that my dad had bought one of those investment percentages in...35-something years ago and we'd been paying "expense calls" ever since, so I'm thankful for that!

I think that goes for 90% of gun stores. First, it's just so macho you can't help but feel superior. cool Second, they're usually staffed with younger guys full of piss and vinegar.

Try Ranger Firearms. The manager is Matt and the owner is Edward. I've know Edward for years and they have always been great to me.

Thanks!!
Matt

The psycho nut bags have always been there. They just get better press now.
Take away their guns, they'll use knives. Take away their knives and they'll use sticks!!

I'll second Ranger Firearms. My uncle-in-law used to work there and they had a pretty good selection of everything

Cool. up I'm glad they got the deal done. It was another step in simplifying my family's life, which I've been trying to do little by little for the last 33 years.

Apache Rifleworks has all you're looking for. Been a "member" since they opened, and as near as I can tell, they have better every year. They will build you a rifle to your specs, or sell you one they have in stock, and will make sure you're happy with your purchase. Ex-military owners, most of the staff is made up of folks who are working part-time at the shop and holding down full-time jobs as firemen, ems, or police jobs. Testosterone level is high, but they do know their stuff and will help you with anything you need.
