What’s the best gun deals you ever made?
A guy I worked with around Christmas asked if I was interested in a Sig 229 for $400
I wasn’t even at that price
A few days later he asked if I was at $300
I bought it, 2 mags, night sights and cherry

Built a Frankenstein ar when everything went crazy. Had ordered most of the parts the day it happened so I was in it ridiculously cheap like 350-400. Some idiot offered me 1600 for it. I gladly excepted. He offered it and I was no fool to walk away. Wasn’t even thinking about letting it go but people got stupid and he was one of them.

$100 for sks during Obama presidency. I flipped it for $450 a few weeks later. Which brings me back to those days... I had the cheapest DPMS, maybe Sportical during that time (my first AR) I wanna say new I paid $500??? Anyway, this guy I know had to get it. I didn’t wanna sell it He paid I wanna say 1k for it. I’m almost certain Your post reminded me, actually that could have been my best

Makes me want to build a few over the next few years just in case the next presidency doesn't go to the republicans.

I felt bad for this one but he needed to pay for a divorce and needed I think 4-500 to finish paying his lawyer. Very vague add on another forum said he had a couple guns and ammo for sale. Made the deal to meet him and not knowing really what I was going after took a good bit of cash with me. Show up to a storage unit he had moved all his stuff in and felt a little awkward. He pulls out nothing special but I’ll help when I can. Pulled out a Winchester model 1200 12 gauge in mint condition and just kinda felt out the situation. Keeps digging and grabs a savage model 10 270 with scope and I think 100 rounds of ammo and the real jewel a wasr10 that looked like it lived the last decade in a swamp. Don’t really know what to offer so left it in his hands. Walked away with 3 guns and a 5 gallon bucket of ammo for $350.

My best buy was a Remington 798 in .243. I’m no haggler, so getting a decent deal on any gun was a matter of circumstance. This shop was selling off inventory at the end of the year for whatever reason, and they told me to make them an offer on anything. I told them I was looking for a .243. They pointed out the only one they had. A 798 with one box of ammo through it. It looked just as new as they said it was. I don’t recall the asking price or my offer, but they were a ways apart, and the asking price seemed fair to begin with. Thing is, I only had available to spend the cash I brought with me, so that was all I could offer. The guy kept running his calculator until he could make the numbers work. I walked out with that rifle and a one dollar bill. I didn’t know anything about the 798 and felt that I was taking a chance, especially considering the funny sounding Russian outfit that made it for Remington. I looked it up, and Chuck Hawks said that in many ways, this was the finest hunting rifle in Remington’s lineup. Good enough for me. I’ve since fallen in love with it. My wife and oldest boy, along with myself, have piled up deer with it. It’s been the tool of choice for more than one beginner’s first whitetail. And it would take an obscene amount of money to make me part with it. A true value, indeed.

On occasion I will randomly stop at pawn shops to see if they have anything decent for cheap....one day found a Beretta 390 12 ga for $400 which is the best deal I've gotten.

How about a scope deal. $600.00 for a Leupold VX6, 3-18 x 50mm. Like new, box and everything including a certificate for the CDS dial. It was on an AR, I shot it, checked the movement of the turrets and POI. Fantastic scope less than 6 months old.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

During the ammo drought, I traded five boxes of WInchester bulk .22LR for a 4" stainless Ruger GP100. I had less than $100 in the ammo.

Two over the years stand out. First was a coworker had a son that was about to turn 8 and his wife decreed there would be no guns in the house. He knew I was a hunter so he offered me a couple. A Ruger M77 tang-safety 243 with a Leupold 3x9, 150 rounds of handloads, sling, case and a S&W 4” Model 57 in 41 mag, holster and 300 rounds of reloads, and dies for both guns. 350$. I asked him if he was sure, and he said yep. Second was at a pawnshop in Dallas when the owner decided he was getting out of guns. Browning BLR in 30-06 with a Leupold 3.5x10 and a nickel Colt Officers ACP for 800$ out the door.

My great deal gun would be a Springfield Model 1896 Krag Carbine. Dated 1895 therefore one of the first ones made. It was on gunbroker titled and one sentence described as a "Springfield hunting rifle" and no other details. The one blurry picture looked like a true Carbine and not a cut down rifle to me so I took a chance from the picture and bid if I remember somewhere under $750. It turned out to be a legit 96 Carbine. I later got a Springfield Research letter on it showing it had been released by the govt in the 1930s. No Indian war or cuba history on it was available, but a steal just the same. The other great deal would be my M1D Garand. Years ago the original Civilian Marksmanship Program got in a few M1D Garands. As new, never shot, in the VPI packaging with Scope and all accessories. There was a lottery for the opportunity to buy one. I won and picked it up for $1200. It was worth much more then and way more now. I did have to remove it from the VPI package so I could at least see it. And I did have to mount the scope and accessories so I could at least hold it and look at it. But I have never shot it nor even pulled the bolt back on it. To shoot it or not haunts me to this day.

An acquaintance covertly ordered a new gun to avoid the wrath of his wife. When the new gun arrived, he offered me a cherry Browning Citori Lightning with 8 screw in chokes, all in a nice leather Browning hard take down case, for $1200. I popped off "Hell it's only worth about $600". He asked me could I have the money in an hour? I made it to the bank and back in less than 10.

Sako 75 300WSM with Zeiss Diavari II scope, used trade in at sporting goods closeout. $499. Scope looked clear but store was told it fogged by original owner. I sent scope to Zeiss in NY and they sent it to Germany to be rebuilt free if charge. 6 weeks later it was back certified rebuilt by the factory.

Mine doesn’t compare to some of these but I did walk into a pawn shop trying to stay in business. They offered me any gun they had for what they had invested so they could get some cash flow. I took an as new Blackhawk in 45 Colt home with me that day for $275. I wish I would have had more cash on me. They were actually pulling the original pawn slips and showing them to me to make the deal.

I was at an estate auction several years ago and there was a Browning A-5 magnum in 12 gauge. No one would bid at $100 or even $50, so I started at $25 to get the auctioneer started. Was going to bid it up to $50 to help move the item, figured it would go high. Bid again at $35 and ended up with it. Needed a trigger group but was otherwise in nice shape. For $112 I had a complete A-5.

Couple of years ago, I bought a great condition Colt King Cobra in stainless with 6" barrel for $400. No, it wasn't hot. Guy inherited it from his dad and needed quick money. I knew the dad when he was alive, and he bought it new.

Bout 15 years ago I worked with a guy who's friend went to prison. My co-worker knew I was into firearms so he offered me the inmates stuff, with permission of course, for money to put on the inmates books. I got a Winchester model 100 in 308 SN dated 1964 in great shape and a 300WM for $300. I traded the 300 for my first 10/22 with $150. I ended up with a 308 and a 10/22 for $150.
