Toilet paper, stuff to start fire, decent first aid kit, tampon for gunshot wounds, duct tape, bailing wire, zipties, leatherman, sunscreen, lip balm, gps, latex gloves, rain poncho, spare batteries, binos, mirror, coins, wd40, simple green, a few qtips, flashlight, crescent wrench, jb weld, 550 cord, ziploc bags, several knives and sharpener, ball point pen. I use a small bag and it all fits with room for extra ammo and magazines to spare.

fire starter, duct tape, extra ammo, marking tape, batteries, gps, knife, toilet paper, granola bars, water
Basically anything to gut a deer, and survive if stranded somehow (injury, lost, etc.). Of course, this was packed for a DIY mule deer hunt in Colorado. On whitetail hunts in Texas, I will cut back a lot of the survival gear.

+1 here. I will add two things. some dishwashing gloves (for handling blood) and ziploc bags.

Couldn't begin to list everything; needless to say I probably carry too much, most of it is not needed but haven't had a chance to clean it out. Sorry, I know this post didn't help but keep it simple and lite and add things the next time if you find you didn't have it.

A lot of what is mentioned above with a few more. I like to keep a roll of orange flagging tape. I use it to mark a blood trail if needed, and several of those glow sticks. I use them to mark my animals at night, so when I go get the truck/4wheeler I can drive right back to them.

It depends. I use a smaller, belt-pack for short range, short term hunts which includes a camera, windage powder, gerber tool, range finder, water bottle, snake bite kit, and therma-cell unit. For all day hunts and longer range, I use a larger back pack, with lots more stuff.

It depends on if I'm going deep back country or not.
The deeper I go, the more I want, in addition to the many usual good things people have listed, like 25' parachute cord, pully, and lots of bags and plenty of spare space in the pack in case I have to de-bone my kill and walk it out.
She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.

Lot's of good ideas, most dependant on where the hunt is and the type of hunting. One thing I'd recommend if you don't do it already is use ziplock bags as compartments for small stuff within your pack. Keeps common stuff together, you can easily see what's in it and it's not all rolling loose in the bottom. Makes stuff easier to find in the field.

Greatly depends on the type of hunt.
Whitetail in a stand.... Toilet paper in a ziplock. Thermocell w/refills. Knife, and pelvic saw. Bottle of water and hand sanitizer. Wallet Ball point pen (surprised no-one else has mentioned this one) Raingear. Range finder. Grunt call. Multi-tool. Surefire E1 light w/xtra batt & bulb. Mini-mag light. Xtra ammo Electrical tape. 1/4" rope.
For elk hunting, add food and emergency kit. Kit includes: Glow sticks, signal mirror, Map, 2 compi (sp?), Game Bags, Ibuprofin, Orange hanki, Space blanket, Space Bag, Fire starter, Bic Lighter, Whistle, Iodine tabs, Xtra TP.
And hydro pack full of H20.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "extra cigarettes." I'm a non-smoker, but I've never been on a lease that there wasn't at least one smoker. Could it be that Texas hunters are finally embracing good health??

+1000, also they are easier to get to that way so we can 'enjoy the moment' without taking a moment.

No smokes, but alot of snuff. Suprised more people did not list a book. Usually I have one that is nonfiction and one that is. I use hydration packs so water is alway there. And I keep my cell phone in my pack when hunting (actually it is a blackberry so intranet also).
