Should the urine be from the same state or does that not matter?
Going to try using coyote urine for the first time while snaring for coyotes.
Any website recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also any lures people have found helpful.

Nope but you will have more success buying lures from a trappers supply company life F & T rather than the stuff from Academy. Hawbakers and Dobbins are my favorite brands.

It can be urine from a yote down the street, doesn't matter as it is a territorial thing and they almost always check to see who has invaded the "hood", BUT, I wouldn't use any "smells/lures" around a snare, don't need it like you would a blind set on the edge of a trail/road. Place the snare in a good run in a fence and thats all you need, location location.

Agree with Western. I do not use any scent around snares, it is the element of surprise without having them alerted to anything that is key to snares on a good trail/fence crossing.

I also agree with Western. If you are using snares on a fence line don't use anything. And try not to change the hole anymore than possible.

Thank you Western.
I'll stick with the coyote urine for snares.
Any other advise about snaring would be greatly appreciated. I am new to snaring.

I have been deciding between getting the urine from Minnesota Trap Line or Trap Shack Company. I really like the squirt bottles from the Trap Shack Company.

So you would recommend not putting sticks down to help guide them to the snare?

You can use sticks to guide the critter, careful about scent of course. I like snares on a fence just because it's easier to make the steel cable look like it belongs there. Some guys will paint their snares to camo them better for trail use. I caught one on a trail while checking my traps and snares...he was in front of me and turned to look back and ran right through my snare and got caught while I watched, he jumped up so high that he landed in the tree and was hanging from the branch I was tied off to.

Doc, if you're determined to use yote P for a snare set, then yes, the flip top bottles are much easier. I can't exactly recall where I used to get mine since it wasnt long and I started harvesting my own and doing trades with other trappers who did the same. NWtrappers, the two you mentioned, possibly the snare shop, just make sure you get 100% P , those places are usually solid choices. You can use sticks, pebbles, clump of grass, or better a natural funnel that you don't need to disturb, doesn't take much. Either buy preloaded snares, or preload them yourself and KEEP ALL FOREIGN SCENTS OFF THE SNARE AND THE AREA, if it's a dumb coyote and you don't get it, you just gave it a graduate degree in how to avoid Doc's trap Just for future. If you do get one, have a 50cc or similar syringe like from vet, feed store, or if you know a Dentist that can get you one lol, open the yote, locate the bladder and drain what you can and put in a bottle. Sometimes you can get a good amount, but many times they crap and p when caught and have a small supply. Yote poop works just as good as p IMO, just try to source it from at least a few miles away. Used to trade plastic pickle jars of "scat" with other trappers as well.
