Judging by the looks of this buck and all the battle scars he has, I'm assuming he's beyond his prime. Am I correct? I'm not good at aging deer, but this one seems like he's over the hill!

But from those pics I would say it was a very cold morning so they appear older than they really are sometimes. I think he is mature though.

I'll stick with mature but more of a 5 yr old. I might not argue 4 with pics of him without his hair fluffed up or much staining on his hocks. Pretty nice 8pt!

I'm only seeing a 4 yo. I'd wait a year, if not two. If he's good and dominant he should do some breeding this year, so let him get after it.

The things I look for in order to determine if it’s an older buck and my answers on this one. The order is by how quickly each decision can be made.
1. Do the legs look short for the size of the body? Yes
2. Does he have a sagging belly like most old men? Yes
3. Does the neck look full and slope completely into the body? Yes
4. Does the hair have a more ragged look than what you see on a younger buck? Yes

I'd shoot that deer, proudly. Good luck.

He's older than 4.5
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.
