Sitting at my stand Saturday morning and the deer in the field were acting strange. Does kept going to the same spot, staring and stomping their feet. Bucks would just look that direction and stare and then turn and walk off without taking their eye off that spot. Told my wife, "I've seen that posture before. There is a dead deer laying in the creek there where they are staring." I wish I would have been right and there was only one!! Biggest one scored 263 and the "little" one was 221. Yes, it is high fenced, but I believe we all share the same emotions when two gladiators die a tragic death. (I guess God has a bigger plan.)

Sorry for your loss. It happens. You don't have to answer but I'd be interested to know deer density/acre and buck/doe ratio.

Oh man, both were awesome.

We have a 1:1 buck doe ratio...and we only carry a deer per 8 acres. Native habitat in this area can support a deer per 10 acres. We figure with all the supplemental feed, feeders, food plots and habitat management: + we plant approximately 100 acres of wheat and soybean per year that we can push the carrying capacity just a bit. On a side note these two deer hated each other. I've seen them go out of their way to fight one another. During the summer they both led two different bachelor groups and stayed completely away from each other. They were hung up last year 100 yards away from the same spot they died, but we were able to find them still alive and unlocked them. We were trying to shoot either one or both since the beginning of MLD level 3 and haven't seen them until we found them locked up. High fence hunting. Supposed to be easy right?

Tough way to go. Tough to find them like that also. I have found 3 sets of bucks like that over the years. One was the first week of March when I found them about a day after they had died. Both bucks were full of poked holes from other bucks taking out their frustrations on them. One pair of locked bucks I found was 5 yrs after they had disappeared. One was low 190's and other was low 200's.

That downright sucks. The only saving grace is at least you found the racks.

How does that work with the antlers? If you keep them do you have to tag them or are they just finder's keepers since they died naturally?
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.
