the painter from work gave me some ammo that he had found in a vacant apartment and I am trying to find out what type/caliber they are.
Some have a LC 89 and others have LC 93
So what do I have?

I believe you have some that is military brass used as to the type/caliber cannot say. Head stamp LC ## usually refers to Lake City and the number is the year of production ie 89 would be made in 1989.

Thanks, they look very similar to my other .223. Is there any way to check the caliber? I would rather not damage anything in shooting free ammo.

measure them is only way I can think of right now. if you have a caliper this should be easy to compair to your other 223's or spec measurements like found in a reloading manual. The problem with ammo of unknown origin is wether these are reloads, and how those were loaded!

Kmon1 is spot on... Lake City 1989 and 1993 I'm in McKinney, holler at me next week if you want a second pair of eyes on it confirm. But I'm 99.9% sure it is .223...... unless you don't know the size differences between .223 and .308

Tried shooting some .223 in my .308. Couldn't get 'em to group no matter what I did.
