Please tell me the difference in shooting trap, skeet or sporting clays! I kinda think of the terms as interchangable, but obviously they're not...

Okay, here goes!!!
Trap: Shoot from 5 stations behind the trap house. Birds are thrown from an ocelating trap. Can go hard right or left and every position in-between. Change stations every 5 rounds with 25 birds thrown.
Skeet: Shoot from 8 stations. Situated in half circle. Seven positions around the half circle and the 8th is out in the center. Station 1, shoot a pair of singles, one from the high house, one from the low, then a set of doubles. Repeat the same on station2. singles all the way around till you get to station 6 and repeat from station 1&2. Go to the center and shoot one from the high and turn around and shoot one from the low. 25 birds also thrown.
Sporting clays: Usually consists of 12 shooting stations all situated on a diverse course. Birds are thrown from various directions consisting of 100 rounds shot. FUN!! Hope I answered all your questions?

Like said above but trap is always going away and skeet is always crossing. Sporting clays is everthing you can think of and then some. Supposed to simulate hunting but got away from that along time ago.

Sporting Clays is a lot of fun because you get some neat presentations of the target, even some rolling "rabbits".
Skeet it a lot of repetition. It takes a lot of skill and learning the timing.

I will add on to CH’s post Quote:

Key here is all shots are going away shots, probably best simulates qual. I do not shoot much trap, but there are different type traps, practice trap is real simple, it is a single target going strait out, this is the place to start for beginners.

What is nice about skeet is you get all the cross shot situation form all angels, here is a nice pic of a skeet field/stations (station 1 is high house left and station 7 is low house right).

Sporting clay is like a golf course, each station is a different setting, having a golf cart is nice for sporting clay, kind of like golf. Below is a link to a THF Sporting Clay Tournament we had for fun, some good pics there, maybe next time you guys should come.

I have seen guys that have a perfect 25 round in skeet also throw up there hat and let there shooting buddies blast it. Kind of a victory tradition or something. I have never had a perfect round in skeet so none of my hats are full of holes.

trap is like shooting flushing birds like a pheasnt or bobwhite quail, skeet is like passing shots on doves and sporting clays are like water flow shooting.

I shot trap today for the first time in 5 years. I was sure I would miss em all, but I managed 13 in the first round and 11 in the second. I know thats not great, but did better than my 2 brothers....LOL

Trap: Easier to learn, harder to master.
Skeet: Harder to learn, easier to master.
Sporting Clays: Too danged much walking but probably the most fun.

since u have already been told what each one is, ill tell u that sporting clays is the funnest game!! followed by 5 stand. skeet only shooters are stuck up ther arse but its a real fun game too lol! as far as trap goes, i can get my dad to sit and my backyard to do trap, that is the least fun of them all IMHO, but it still beats not shooting.
