I'm looking to buy an AR soon and have some questions about calibers.
I want to be able to effectively harvest everything from predators to deer and hogs. so an all around caliber I don't need long distance accuracy, but rather knock down power. (our land is pretty grown up so 100 yards is max) I want it in AR platform because we have rather large groups of hogs so the clip capacity would be nice.
I'm thinking 300 blackout. What else should I consider?

You are not going to be able to dump even a 20 round ar clip and expect to hit pigs in a "grown up area". They are not going to wait for you to shoot them. As soon as you pull the trigger on the first hog they are going to be flying every direction at slightly less that warp 1.

std ar10 308/7.62x51 cheap eazy simple tons of ammo around That would be my choice as well. Most folks agree that any bullet with a diamter less than the .243 is too small for deer. And hogs can be much harder to kill than deer.

You should consider the 6.8 SPC. Plenty of power & plenty of good off the shelf hunting ammo. It fits in AR15 nicely.

DPMS G-II Recon .308 Win, 16" stainless barrel, and I got it from an individual on this forum for less than $1k. That is my sounder rifle, and it is the perfect tool for the job. It has worked well on hogs from 20 yards to 500 yards.

I like a 6.8 spc shooting 120gr SST's in an AR-15. It's lighter weight than an AR-10 when equipped with the same sight's and suppressor. However if you want pure knock down power the .308 would be the way to go.

Our last video of shooting pigs we timed their reaction time from the exact moment of BOOM for one second later. The other pigs had moved 15 feet in that one second. And increased their distance quickly after the got going.

I'm aware that I won't be able to get off a whole clip for pigs. I was rather referring to the semi-automatic ability to get more that one or two shots off. I do perfectly fine with my .243 bolt action for single pigs and deer. I just want something that I can put a couple rounds through, if they give me the opportunity.

My choices in order of preference would be, 7mm-08, 6.5 Creedmoor or .308. Or since the distance you’ll be shooting is short a 30-30 will do the job as well as an AR IMO and wouldn’t cost as much.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.
