I'm just getting into bow hunting. When I practiced my bow seemed to be easy enough to draw but I was sitting on the ground about 30 yards from 3 does last season and when I tried to draw my bow it felt like I was pulling on the bumper of my truck. I could draw it, but it wasn't a smooth thing. It's probably just an opinion, but about where do you want to set the pull weight on a hunting bow? Thanks...

Sitting on the ground is a tough position to draw from because your core is compressed. If you get a stool to sit on it will be easier. You also need to remember when sitting for long periods of inactivity the muscles tend to shorten up and not be prepared for that type of sudden use. If you can draw and shoot 70 pounds 40 or 50 shots in the back yard with out tiring you may be okay to hunt at that weight but for most of us if we get tired after 20 or 30 rounds at 70 pounds 60 or 65 may be a better hunting weight for us. If you hunt into the colder part of the year you may need to lower it as the season goes on.

+1 I never realized that sitting down shooting was more difficult until I was shooting an 80 lb draw BowTech Guardian a couple years ago. Was a lot more difficult shooting sitting down. Lots of practice will help build those muscles.

Passthru nailed it. It's harder to draw sitting down. I do most of my practicing from sitting or kneeling positions.

I will never forget the first time I tried to draw my bow back after sitting a few hours in 20 degree weather. I couldnt get it to full draw. Now if I know Im going to take a shot in that kind of situation I try to tense up the muscles in my upper body to try and warm them up. If that makes sense. Seems to help me.
