Found a stock 24” Savage barrel for sale in 6.5cm that has 900-1000rds through it. My question is...Is 1,000 rounds through a barrel enough to be concerned about rifling wear? I’ve read that barrels should be good for 5,000-10,000 rounds, depending on load workup and bullet type. He says it still groups under 1” at 200yds, but being a skeptic, I figured I’d ask people that know more about it than I do. Any advice or experienced info would be awesome. Thanks

6.5 Creedmoor is on the bubble of being done at 2000 rounds. It is absolutely over with at 2500 rounds. Shot out two of em so far, and am working on number 3.
10,000 round barrel life is reserved for 308 Win.

Anytime someone says they’re groups start opening up with the same ammo load, it makes me start wondering. Thank you so much, Fireman, you’re a great help!

Opening groups could also be one of two things, that are polar opposites.
1. It needs to be cleaned. 2. It was just cleaned and needs to be fouled back in.
You're welcome.

This is his ad.. “i have a Savage 24" heavy varmint style barrel, small shank, 6.5 creedmoor barrel 8 twist off of a model 10 has 5R rifling, barrel has approx 1000 rounds thru it, still shoots 1" at 200yds with 140 gr SMK. barrel looks perfect, shoots better than most new rifles, that i can say, i replaced it with a custom barrel, after about 900 rounds my groups were opening up at 200yds, as i said it still shoots 1" at 200, if you do your part.”
He’s only asking $75 for it, I’m just concerned it may have already been shot out. The “if you do your part” statement kind of made me think it may be a cop out statement.

I’d say for $75 you can’t go wrong. Buy it, clean it with a good solvent, and put 40 rounds through it. if you hate it I’ll give you you’re money back.

A money back guarantee on someone else’s used barrel, that’s a heck of a deal. lol Reminds me of that famous poet, Oddball, when he said...”with all of these positive waves, what can go wrong!” (While he eats cheese, drinks wine, and barks like a dog in a lawn chair)

Nothing to be afraid of.
Clean it, plan on 10 rounds, of your load to foiul it, tweak a new load for that barrel. Bet it'll be just fine. Savage barrels shoot.

I haven’t got into reloading yet, what would be a good commercial round with which to test, based on twist rate and barrel length? Thanks

I’d run a 6.5-06 reamer through it effectively setting it back just a little bit, slap it in a LH 110 action, then burn it the rest of the way out. Might as we AI it since I’d be buying bastard dies anyway.

I understood the first and last sentence, but for $75 I figure I can get Tim at Abilene Gun Works to perform the suggested technical work if needed. I was a little apprehensive at first, but you two have kind of set my mind at ease. I certainly appreciate it!

I’m only going to need 10. Give me a shout when you get it mounted up and I’ll give you the other 10 of each for you to test (if you’ll spring for shipping). Might be able to drop them to you on the way to Mills County some weekend too.

Depending on how hard you push your 6.5 CM, 2000-2500 rounds should be easily doable. In a competition rifle, the round count will be less. In a hunting rifle or target rifle where you do not fire multiple rounds quickly through the rifle, round count will increase.

Who's Dallas Custom Reloads? Says the guy that asked me what my company name was, and if I had a website. Really, you want to compare details, and whom is paying attention? At least I got all the words, and just switched a few. You're standing there like
