Come closer to the season in the panhandle, you can look at several of the towns and they have big events. Check with their chambers of commerce.

This year's bird count is comparable to anywhere in the country...especially since you can only shoot 2. No problems getting a limit.

I grew up in Hale Center, just north of Lubbock. We're going in a couple of weeks. We've got lots of land to hunt, but the Cotton Center Lion's club is sponsoring a fund raiser hunt. It's quite inexpensive and they usually have more land to hunt than you could possibly walk in two days. It's usually under 150 bucks and there are lots of birds. Shoot me an e-mail address and I'll get you my contact's information. I think it will be well worthit.

WOW, I just got back from Kansas. Me and 4 close friends took my Sequoya and drove up to north central KS, to Mitchell County and hunted public.

I had 3 birds before 8:00AM on opening Saturday. It made me sick to see my friends miss and miss and miss.
I did miss one bird though.

Getting a KS limit of 4 isn't hard opening weekend!

It was my first real KS hunt and, I didn't know how much walking we were going to do.

We had to duct tape my friend Jay's feet and, another guy stepped into a hole and pulled a tendon. I was the only one ready to hunt again on Sunday and, I think that's only because I run about 12-15 miles a week.

I can't wait until Texas opener. I want to go back and hunt some more. I don't mind walking for them and hunting hard. There isn't really anything like flushing one of those big birds!

I also learned how to properly skin a pheasant. We were hunting a couple of miles from Tipton, KS and we were eating lunch at a little cafe there. We started talking to a guy sitting next to us and, it just so happened that he was a taxidermist. He took us out behind the cafe and cleaned all our birds for us and left them entirely intact for mounting. The guy had the skill of a surgen. We gave him a couple of the skins for the trouble and, of course, bought his lunch!

I will also be hunting down in Hale Center and If you can get in where Cody's talking about that would be a great 1st time for you. That is if it's anything like it was last year. I won't be with the Cotton Center Group but we hunt alot of land in and around there and it has always proven well.

Boy's if you ever get the chance, try South Dakota. Went last week and it was phenomenal. Never hunted longer than two hours with two groups of ten.

Love,

You can contact any town in the panhandle and they usually have hunts set up. costs Range from $200 a weekend. Ask them if they give you a map or do they have guides to show you where to hunt. I did a hunt in Morse, Tx last year and it was really good. This year should be excellent.

IF you have the money contact any of the goose guides. They usually have combo pheasant and afternoon goose hunts.
