I posted a topic just like this about a year ago. My 15 month old labs hair has once again started falling out. She looks absolutely terrible. She doesn't seem to be itching much, and the vet sent labwork to A&M which came back showing low thyroid levels so they put her on a pill which has done nothing so far. I had about a 6 month break from all this when it cleared up, but its back and this poor dog has cost me over $2k in vet bills in 1 year. Please help. Anything is appreciated.
This is an ol'timer vet with a younger female vet in his office that has looked at her too.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Wish I could help, but I have never heard anything like that. Your Vet should have the most knowledge about it though. Have you tried a second opinion from another Vet?

I do not know anything about your vet, but if could find a O'timer vet that have been around, there's a good chance he might know. I just don't have any luck with these young city vets. Somebody surely knows one close to you.

I would first put some heat on your current Vet to come up with a diagnosis. Be demanding! Especially if you paid him $2k already! Ask him if he a has tried calling any of his colleagues, older ones preferably as dgilbert recommends that have more experience. Maybe you have already done all this, but I would not be happy with my Vet if he came back with “I don’t know” after $2k! If I was a Vet, I would be picking up the phone and calling everyone I knew, not only to serve my customer, but to learn something! If he is not willing to do this, switch Vets for sure!! Good luck! I wish the best for your dog!

Is there any history of Red Mange in your dogs breedings? I have had dogs with similar conditions. I start them with 1cc of Ivomec once a day for a week then 1.5 ccs every other day for a week. Then 1.5ccs once a week for two weeks. I am not saying this is what your dog has but this is what I have had in the past. It is easily diagonsed by your vet so surely he has checked for it.

Here is a website with that has a lot of the causes of hair loss and their treatments. It could be something as simple as a food allergy that goes in cycles due to the amount of the allegen in the food building over time or it could be something else.

I had a friend who had a Rottweiler that was allergic to grass or something like it and it's hair was doing the same thing. None of the Dallas vets they took him to could figure it out. Then a vet in Lindale told them it was allergies and put the dog on a pill and never had a problem again. Might be worth it to ask.

I don't much about this but can recommend a very good VET. He is a heavy duty(daily) duck hunter and a Lab guy. Does all the work on my Chessy's. DR. Keith Taylor, Rockwall County Vet Clinic, Borkwall TX. 972-722-9422

Well not much has changed. Some of yall recommended shampoos and a dewormer that I thought i'd try just in case. She doesn't seem to be getting worse, but not better either. The vet said to give it a little longer on the thyroid pills so we haven't given up yet. I'll try to post pics within the next few weeks.
thanks for the concern all
trent
