I am new to the forum and really enjoy it. My question is, what is a good brand of shock collar i can use to train my 7 month old lab???? I need something that is pretty affordable right now i have about 200 dollars to spend. if possible though i would like to have a package of 2 for my brothers dog too. any comments will be appreciated.

Disappointed with anybhting else? Yes. Disappointed with Dogta? Probably. I use two Dogtra collars and have for several years now. They don't hold up. Twice I have had to send the units in because of whatever problem comes along. The pin in the collar claspe broken, batteries not lasting longer than a year, ect. Something is always wrong with either one of them and it is dang frustrating when you send it back to get it fixed. Your not going to get out of there for less than a $100.
I am a trainer and I am hard on my equipment. That should have nothing to do with the equipment failure though. My money will be spent on Tri-Tronics next go around.

Have Tri-Tronics & Sport dog. Like the sport dog better. Have no problems with Tri Tronics just always grab the Sport Dog.

another vote for tri-tronics... but its gona be hard to keep your budget under $200, and nearly impossible to get 2 collars for tht price. I bought an old tri-tronics sport 50 off ebay for around $100 last year, and it has held up pretty well. Its used, and i have no idea how old it is. The battery wouldnt hold a charge when i recieved it, so i called them and they shipped me another one for like $15. so i have $115 wrapped up in it.
I like spoonie, his humor is dryer than my duck lease.

That is why I don't like Dogtra. They want you to send it in to be fixed so they can stick it to you for more then they should.

What training do you intend to do with a collar? I've always thought the collars purpose was to reinforce commands the dog has already learned.

first I have heard someone say that 
I have a sportdog and it just seems to have no middle ground on the intensity level. level 2 was 2 low, but level 3 would zap the hell out of the dog...I have heard people complain the about the same thing when it comes to sportdogs.
I have also used tri-tronics...my hands down winner
Attention rickym, this is not a troll post, just a good hearted fun type of post

You just had some bad luck... The same type of thing happens with tri-tronics all the time. Everytime there's a design change the first collars out have issues. I don't know if that happened to you, but it could have...
FYI,,, Tri-tronics will not repair older models. If you got a battery from them you're lucky. That's not happening anymore. The Collar Clinic will continue to repair older tri-tronics units...

The tri-tronics G3 basic is $239... Pretty close to your budget...

This is a little off subject but not far --- Has anyone seen the new Remingon collar? Not that I would buy one but it seems to look a lot like Innotek. I figure those who know wont buy one and those that do will sell them on E-bay

Ive used the tritronics for years on my Police dog and my Lab and love it but I'll be going to a dogtra, as I need a smaller receiver/collar. I have a dog I rescued from the pound, I'm using for blood tracking and the tri tronics seems too big and heavy for him. He is only about 50lbs.

The tri-tronics comes in two transmitter sizes. You can get a smaller one if you choose. We use the old G2 sport 2 dog for hunting. The sport has the smaller transmitter like a dogtra.

..Have you used collars in the past..?if so great..If not please go trains for a few days with a PRO or become thoroughly educated before you try to train a dog with one...You can "burn" a dog quickly if you have no experience...

Yep, well said. This is a very good DVD, what I used. Expensive but worth it.
