Have one that has been in family longer than I have been so any ideas or recommendations on who to talk to? Wood is there but replacement maybe worth upgrading, few screws are fouled up and would need replacing, you know typical restoration project...all the way down and refurbish on wore metal parts and furniture. Turnbull wants the gun for estimate when I was thinking pictures should give idea on exterior estimate then the metal and iron work would be the unknown. I know we have a member on here that deals with classics and possible restores.

If you send it to turnbull, the value will increase. Send it to just about anything else, and the value will decrease. Your call.

I saw Turnbull at the Safari Club Show, dang beautiful work BUT, personally, he has gotten TOO BIG, I doubt he touches any of the work himself. He is always working on his new calibers and testing them in Africa. Kinda like George Gardner at GA Precision, he has become a celebrity and works with big companies developing new stuff. Probably hasn't "smithed" a customers gun in years. Unless its for Jacob Bynum or another "buddy"

But to be clear, I agree with Tactical Cowboy. I think your average joe shmo gunsmith restoration would probably decrease value.

What are your goals? If value or resale, Turnbull might be a good idea. OTOH, no matter what you do, it will no longer be 100% original. If you want to hunt with it, value doesn't matter.
