I never found anyone worth a dang, and honestly I was intimidated by engines at one time --
So I had my mechanic at one of my business do most of the wrench turning while I managed the project.
I had a lot of work to do on mine when my mufflers fell apart and a piece got into the top end some how at about 100 hrs.
Cost me about $1800 in parts alone. But now we know just about everything about them. If you want to talk with me or my mechanic my shop is in azle and we can help you out.
Send me a PM
good luck either way.
-Matt

35 HP Briggs and Stratton
It's backfiring out of the carburetor.
I've drained all gas and put in new fuel with Seafoam. I've changed the plugs and the fuel filter. I've adjusted the valves.

Wylie Outdoor Power, right against 78 worked on mine this spring. Fair guy and he really knows these engines. I'd use them or 4 brothers.

If you’ve done all that you’ve stated, i would locate the lean/rich adjustment screw on your carb. If mikuni it will be on the right side of the carb towards the bottom (if you’re looking at the front of the motor). The adjustment screw will have a spring behind it. Crank the motor, let it warm up. Make sure your idle is set anywhere between 8-900 rpms. Turn the adjustment screw, minute turns clockwise, until you hear the engine cut back while giving it full throttle intermittently. Then turn the adjustment screw back counter clockwise until you find your throttle response is spot on and there’s no back firing. Sounds to me that the vibration may have you running a little too rich. Pour some sea foam directly into your carb, just a little bit. Do the exact same as stated if you’ve got stock carb.... what did you set your valves to?

This is the stock carburetor.
I've added SeaFoam to the fuel line and gas tank (fresh gas) and I have also sprayed SeaFoam in the intake of the carb while running it. No change after these steps. New plugs and new fuel filter have been added as well.
Valves were set to 0.005"
Thanks for everyone's inputs so far!!! I do appreciate it......

Its a 2014 GatorTail 35hp. I've owned it since new.
101 hours on the motor. All scheduled maintenance has been done yearly.

Too much Seafoam will cause the same problem.

Did you check for bent push rods or rocker arm studs pulled out of head?

I spoke to a Briggs mechanic today and he also said check for bent push rods and cracked rocker arms. I'm going to check that next.

If you need to tear the motor down, or can't figure the problem out, let me know and we can most likely take care of it for you depending on my work load in the shop.
