Is anyone out there shooting this round through their Tikka .308? I normally shoot Core-Lockt but this year I have shot two deer with poor performance.
I know this is a popular bullet in the 143 grain size coming from a 6.5mm but had not seen anyone shooting the 178gr from a 308

Not in the 308 flavor but in the 30-06. It hits like a wrecking ball. I’ve shot a bobcat, coyote, and pig with it and all 3 have had massive holes. The cat was so bad the taxidermist couldn’t repair it.

He said he shoots core loks Some people reload Core Lokts but I think you are right in that most people don't so it's likely factory ammo. Edit- He said Precision Hunter in the title so now I know I'm wrong about reloading. I have failed on this thread. I'm leaving now.

Jefe,
You reloading or using factory ammo? I use factory ammo...I was using the Remington Core-Lokt 150gr PSP but like I mentioned it hasn't performed well this year on game. I was on a hunt in Freer and the bullet hit behind the shoulder and exploded. Not much penetration at all. Almost cost me a deer.

I still consider myself new to reloading and have only loaded 168gr match. I plan to switch to a hunting bullet so I'm weighing in only to see what other say about the ELD-X in .308 This should be in ammo section, no?

I have loaded a bunch of the 178 ELD-X, from 308, 30-06 and 300 WM. All have done very well. Reports on animals have been great, also. I loaded over 3000 rounds for a guy in my bulk ammo with the 178 ELD-X and he and his customers killed a bunch of critters with it, mainly pigs. He liked it a lot to order a large quantity.

Successfully used the 143 grain ELD-X with my 6.5 Creedmoor and the 178 grain ELD-X with my 308 Win. Jackrabbits, coyotes, bobcats, wild hogs, axis deer, Coues whitetail and one water buffalo fell last year. They're working well for me so I'll continue to use them with these two rifles.

I’m hoping to find a hunting round for my 18 inch AR 10 that will double as a very accurate round out of my 24 inch bolt gun. Hoping it’s as accurate or better than the FederL Gold Metal Match 168

It was a hefty order! The 308 order was done in 2 different orders, but same customer.

I bought a box to try out of my tikka ctr 308, they shot great. Heard good things about them as a hunting round. I did not hunt with them, decided to stay with 165 sgk.

Update
I shot two pigs this past weekend over 200lbs with the 178gr ELD-X out of my .308. Both were DRT with golf ball size exit holes. Pretty impressed.

Yeah, they shot well out of a 20" Tikka CTR that is at Morgans getting cut to 16 this week and about to be dropped in a new offering for Tikkas from McMillan. Think II am going to hunt with my 18" WC 308 this weekend with the ELDX
