I have shot a number of coyotes with the 6.8 and it works great but it’s not fur friendly if you wanted to keep it.

anyone seen one in a bolt action? Haven't seen one in a bolt action, but mine is a Ruger #2 single shot.

No bolt action, but I have built two in ARs. I have taken coyotes, hogs and deer with mine. Used within their limits, they have been pretty much bang/flop for me.

neat looking # 2.......did you have to bend the lever to get it to work with that stock? Nope, no bending & the 6.8's slight recoil causes no problem from the lever. A ruger #2 is simply a Ruger #3 with the wood replaced from a #1. This project has a Shilen med heavy varmint barrel, 22" with a standard spec II chamber. I've only shot 1 deer & a hog since it was built. My hopes is that it will be my go-to "Hill-Country" deer rifle. My buck this year was shot head-on in the brisket & the bullet stopped about 3" in one the hams. 110gr Nosler Accubond at about 2,600fps. Recovered weight 86gr.
The North has double last names. The South has double first names.

I have a savage (built) 6.8 spc bolt action, i love it. For hill country it is the perfect cartridge. I did have an experience the other day with federal fusion 115 that left me cold on that loading. I load 110 sierras and 120 sst with excellent results.

I have a couple of 6.8s that I use exclusively for night time pig hunting and they work very well for that.
I have zero experience shooting anything soft skinned with one though. I'm sure with proper bullet it would work quite well.

It was also Remington that all but killed the 6.8 back then with the original chamber specs and twist rates. Thankfully Harrison Beene at ARP tweaked it and brought the 6.8 back to life. I would dang sure stick with a SPC II or ARP marked gun if you want the most from the 6.8.

I had one of those original Remy's in 6.8 then had a gunsmith open it up to a 6.8 II. It was deadly and accurate in both caliber configurations. Then, like an idiot, I sold it to fund another gun project! But it it's good-performing, less-than-200-yard caliber and just about perfect for us here in CenTex.

I bet that little 90 grain gold dot would do decent! Dont blow up, but you will have exits. I get 2775 out of my 12.5" federal xm6.8.

I have killed a lot of deer and hogs with the 6.8 and one coyote. Love the round.. I have 3 of them, 2 16" (me and my son) and a 11.3" with a red dot that also gets used for Thermal night time pigs My brother and several other hunting buds have bought one after seeing how well they work.
