I am looking at two different places for deer hunting. One is in Knox County near Benjamin and the other is in Hardeman County north of Quanah. Has anyone on the forum hunted these areas or know about the number of deer and the trophy potential? I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks

Had the pleasure of eating breakfeast with Wyman Meinzer 10 years ago or so. He was born and raised in Benjamin. He showed us some pics of deer from the area. OH MY GOSH!!!!!! There are some absolute monsters in those badlands.

I've hunted in Foard Co & we had very few whitetail & some Mules. It is very vast open terrain that has small #'s of game. Go to TDW & check the #'s of deer per county. It is a helpful insight. Muleies are a bonus as U only have 10 days of a season so look for whitetail.

THERE ARE NO BUCKS IN HARDEMAN COUNTY...
Honestly, I've hunted Hardeman for the past 8 years and it's been great to me. I'm right in between Chillicothe and Quanah to the North...right off the Red. Seen at least two 140-170 class bucks come off the 700 acre place each year. There's always a couple 120-130's mixed in there as well. I've only been out once in that time and not seen deer. Plenty of hogs and turkey. Quail is pretty good depending on where you are. Only drawback is a lot of the land around there is wide open terrain as Rattler says, but if you get on the right spot, it can be unbelievable. You'll have that same terrain in both spots (Hardeman and Knox). But, I've never hunted Knox, so can't speak for that one. I've seen some brutes come out of there and grew up with some guys who still hunt it and wouldn't move.
This entire area has gotten more and more pressure each year. I hate to advertise it like this, but gotta say it's great hunting.

Those wheat fields hold a lot of deer in the late afternoons.

If you want big bucks and a diverse hunting setup go with Knox City. Our 500 acre ranch is a little southwest of there and we have had great hunting success every year. We have had the place about 5 years and this year we took 5 bucks and 5 does off the property. 200# and 150 B&C are pretty common. The goose, crane, and duck hunting is great around there too after you bag your deer for the season.
