Just talked to my brother who went out to our new lease near San Angelo this week. Birds were 50/50 blues & bobs but they in really thick cover. He strongly recommended I get some chaps for my upcoming hunt because the prickly pear is tough. Carhartt's pants like I usually wear while in the field were ineffective. Any idea of what brand of chaps would be good for cactus?

Filson double tin if it's cold enough. Single tin if warmer

Filson good choice and Hoyt makes nice chaps. If you want to spend some and get the best Huntsmith.

Tiemann's Chaps out of Priddy, Texas.
10 years and they don't even look scarred.
The 1000 denier cordura nylon chap with the full length zipper and button down zipper covers.
I have never had cactus and thorn penetrate. Very comfortable and adjustable.

Filson double tin is what I have and I really like them. I've heard really good things about Orvis too though.
Say When.....

They no longer make them but u can get them at king ranch saddle shop--they bought the pattern. http://www.krsaddleshop.com/Adult-Leg-ProtectorFyi a friend had them stop a big snake...they r good leggings --protection above the knee and comfortable.

Where abouts in SA? What kind of numbers is your brother seeing? I’m seeing mostly bobs, never needed chaps.

NW of San Angelo. They found 5-10 nice sized coveys a day hunting all day every day. They had at least one hatch of bobs he said.
He said it was hard to tell if the blues were young or old as they all ran away...
