Hey guys, just getting in to the sport and trying to get an idea of if I should shoot off-handed or one-eye closed. I'm a newbie so don't have any old habits to unlearn, but I am a fairly decent right-sided rifle/shotgun shot (one-eye closed). Especially interested if anyone shoots a rifle right-sided and a bow left-handed...yeah, this is probably a little weird!

I am left eye dominant and shoot right handed , I do ok as long as I shoot a peep,I shoot with both eyes open.
If your just starting I would learn left handed.

I'm left eye dominant and started off bow hunting with a right handed bow, shooting it left handed. I would suggest that you find a left handed bow and start with that. I'm right handed on everything else but shoot guns and bows left handed.

Thanks for the info. Everyone I've talked to says might as well learn on a left-handed bow.

I would shoot one before you buy one, though

This seems to be rather common. I can't believe some enterprising archer hasn't come up with an excellent solution to this.

I'd try something like an offset rifle sight, or hind site. Then you can mix the best of both worlds.

I was going to ask the same. I am right handed and left eye dominant. I am looking for my first bow, I thinking about trying a lefty bow. But I shoot all guns right handed and am a fine shot. As long as it is comfortable then go with it.

Im left eye dominant but right handed so it just took practice using my right eye, leaving my left eye closed, to get used to it. It was a whole lot easier for me to train my right eye than to shoot left handed, felt like monkey

Ditto, I am left eye dom right handed. Have learned to be proficient with guns from either side but Bow jsut felt very akward shooting or trying to from left side so learnd to close left eye jsut before shot. patch Ides works when know distance but I need both eyes whe judging distance.

I shoot a bow left handed and rifle right handed. I'm left eye dominant. Go with the left handed bow. You will see the target through the peep with your left eye and be able to have the right eye still open for peripheral vision.

My son is right handed and left eye dominant. Tried for years to get him shooting accurately. All it took was setting him up left handed. He is a great shot now.

We have enough youth. How about a fountain of "smart"?

IMO, don't fight it, go with the left handed bow, left handed shotgun also. It actually benefits you to have your "stronger" arm doing the work with the shotgun. I'm not sure if that goes for the bow also but I never had a problem finding or shooting a left handed bow that I could attribute to shooting left handed.
