I'm looking to upgrade my 12 ga. What is your preference for a quality gun in my price range? $300-500.

New or quality used. Best places to check out in the DFW area?

i know a lot of you guys knock them, but the stoeger m2000 is a great gun...ive shot mine no telling how many times and it is very reliable...there is about 5 of us that dove hunt with them every year and no one is dissapointed in them. just my opinion though

870 remington, cant go wrong with it!!!! and i wanna hear one person say that those are a piece of crap!!!
If ur lookin for a semi, id go with the 1100. the stoeger is a nice gun, id say less recoial than the 1100, but ive only shot the stoeger a few times.

870 remington is a good gun, for anything but dirty nasty weather hunting (duck/goose). The matte finish rusts real easy. So, IMO they aint worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on. Got a benelli nova, and painted my 870 using a method described on another site and it hasnt rusted. I still use the nova in bad conditions though.

Excellent gun I own two and they have been great. As far as a pumpgun goes I would go with the Nova, 870, or Stoeger 350 (Turkish made Nova). My Nova shoots whatever I feed it and it's tough as nails. I don't even bother cleaning it.

Thanks for all the advice. I've always had pump. Any drawbacks or troubles with jams on semi autos?

I gotta add that this gun is primarily used for dove.

Clean it first, lube it, shoot it, shoot it , some more, maybe clean it, shoot more....I don't clean mine during Dove season, just an exterior wipe down and a little lube hear and there.

I think I've decided on a used Remington 11-87 Premier. It's within the price range. I looked at several new guns and just want something a little more, so decided to go used.

Any feedback on this model is greatly appreciated.

Beretta 390 for semi-auto. Don't kick much, never had a problem with mine. I got a Briley full choke for turkey and it does the trick every time.

Find a Belgium Made Browning A5. If you look hard you can still pick them up for 400-500 in good shape. They are great shooters, a real classy looking gun. And if you buy an A5 your not purchasing a firearm your making an investment. At least thats what I tell my wife. LOL

My B-I-L's 1187's barrel flew off this year while duck hunting. Wasn't impressed with the gun at all. Only thing holding the barrel on is a gas port that is silver soldered on to the tube.
1100's are good as well as the Stoeger 2000. Both are well made and are excellent dove guns. 1100 maybe a little more cause you can shoot lighter loads than the Stoeger.

the finish does rust fairly easy. But functionality in that nasty weather never fails!! ive hunted some gross stuff, gotten mud clogged up in everything u can fit mud into. And i gotta say that after a good 10,000-12,000 rounds, i had to replace a part in it. that was after plenty shooting and rough treatment.!

I'd stay away from 1187s. Better bang for your buck with the SPR453 or a mossburg semi auto.
