3rd grade questions:

1) What choke do you use for dove hunting?

2) For an over-under, how do you set up your chokes, and which barrel to shoot first?

1) Depends on avg. distance your shooting, inside 30 yds. IC will be fine. I'm lucky enough to be able to hunt where all my shots are under 25 yds. and use Sk. or Cyl.

2) Most O/U shooters I know shoot bottom bbl. first, saying less bbl. jump on first shot that way. I'm not sure there's any scientific proof to that but it's what I've always done.

I generally keep my o/u choked modified over i/c. I also shoot bottom bbl first. I wait until the bird is in range and hope that the first bbl does the trick. If it doesn't then I figure I may need more distance on the second shot at a spooked bird. If I'm expecting mostly in-close shots I'll go with i/c over i/c.

The whole month of September I shoot both barrels I/C. Then in Oct I go I/C on bottom and Mod on top. Bottom barrel shoots first. But I will change things up if the need arises.

Cross dominance, using right handed/left eyed as an example: 1) learn to shoot left handed, 2) shoot right handed and close left eye OR (even better) place scotch tape on left lens of glasses, this will cloud up the left eye so right eye is focusing and still allow light in so your depth perception isn't diminished as much. Other than that, cross dominance doesn't come into play with questions on chokes or which bbl first. P_102
