Found a good deal on Whitetail Institute Clover food plot and decided I was going to plant about an acre food plot at our place middle - september. I did a soil test and found out that the soil is at an 8 which is a little high from what the seed is saying it needs to be. Just curious for those out there who still plants with this being high/low and if it will still produce the clover like its suppose to do.

Also if anyone has planted Whitetail Institute Clover, how did it work? Notice anything different about bringing more/seeing more deer?

Whitetail Institue's Imperial Clover is one of my favorites and my deer's favorite, but I've always addressed the soil's needs via their Soil Testing Services that give specific recommendations for their products. I've been using the WI seed blends since 2004 and what I can say is that when I don't follow the lime and fertilizer recommendations that are stated in the testing reports, my plots are not as productive as they could be.

Okay, all the above said, I have a plot that is going to see Imperial Clover for the first time and the pH is 7.8 there is no lime requirement from my report. What about the P, K, Ca, and Mg ppm values on your soil test report?

Do you believe that WTI offers superior seeds? I read their information periodically and it looks great, but is it marketing or are their seeds superior than what I buy at the feed store?

I've tried to match the seed mixes as close as possible, both specific seed and percent, but it has never turned out as well as with their bagged mixes. I've also tried a number of other marketed mixes but based on the results I've seen, prefer WI.

When it comes to trying to match the mix, you must also buy a bunch of seed to get there. I plant 12.5 acres, with plot size about an acre each, and that means that all the plots would be the same. I like trying mixing it up a bit and having three of four different mixes in the ground.

Honestly, the one specific locally produced mix has produced the poorest results after trying multiple seasons so I decided to heck with it. I will just use what has produced the best results.

I also have had the most help from WI over all the others. They have been always available and actually listen when I talk. Most recently, they have been spot on for helping me eliminate a redroot pigweed infestation in a 1.5-acre plot. It had even started to appear on another that is down drainage from it but with their advice I got it stopped.

The WI's "Whitetail News" is worth getting. I've learned more about food plot farming from it than I have from any other source other than their support staff.

I have one 2 1/2 acre food plot, thinking about putting their Pure Attractant and Winter Peas in this year.
Since I have purchased their products a couple of times, I get the emails and magazines which I enjoy.
