Say, what is the latest scoop on shipping a firearm from Texas to an FFL Holder?
Anybody had any recent experience or hassles via Fedex, UPS, USPS?
Thanks!

Don't ship guns, split it into two pieces and ship two containers of gun parts. No ffl needed.
Cast I have a short attention spa

LOL dont do that.
Pretty sure if it leaves the state you have to take it to an ffl to ship it. They do it all the time shouldn't be a big deal just a small fee.

I just did this, used my FFL (pawn shop). Just boxed it up and then paid them whatever shipping was ($35) plus their $20 fee. So $55 to ship.

Over the last couple years, I've had no prob's shipping long guns out of state via USPS Priority to an FFL. Only reason I've had to use the other guys was price @ USPS on an over sized box I had packed the outbound rifle in one time. Live ammo is another story totally though.
I did have repeated trouble at the Pottsboro PO from the Post Master who could not read and understand his own Written Regs and did not know the difference between a Long Gun and a Hand Gun, and demanded that I ship thru his BinL, who'd been fired I was told later by the Pottsboro PD, and was trying to get a Gun Bidnizz started.
FWIW they've changed Post Masters at Pottsboro since then too....walked into the Denison PO 30 minutes later and got it done with no wrinkled eyebrows except that he did not have the Holiday Postage stamps my wife wanted in stock. Fast, Friendly, Courteous folks at both Denison & Sherman PO's.
Here in Palestine I've shipped several rifles in the last year we've been here with nary a blink & got a smile and warm welcome to East Texas smile. They ALWAYS get a A+ on my survey response too. Ron

Same issue in Burleson PO, they refused shipping a long gun to a FFL. I had to take it to a UPS hub to ship it out. You can ship a long gun your self even to an out of state address but it has to ship to a FFL.

Long guns within the state - USPS
Long guns out of state to FFL or any hand gun - UPS distribution center or Fedex

There's a UPS distribution center in McKinney that's very convenient for me, particularly since they are open in the evening. I've shipped at least 12 ~ 15 long arms without difficulty. As always, pack very well to avoid most issues.

As always, pack very well to avoid most issues. I called the local UPS store in advance to be sure I could ship it and they said I could. When I showed up, they said I had to go to Mesquite (an hour away). So I just took it to FedEx, but it was $55 to ship a 22 rifle. I'll just sell locally and avoid the hassle from now on, or I don't mind shipping within the state. But dealing with UPS and FedEx is way too big of a pain for me.

The UPS stores are franchises and are generally useless when it comes to shipping firearms.

The UPS stores are franchises and are generally useless when it comes to shipping firearms. That is for sure. I was even told that if you told them that it is a part to a gun they will not accept in Burleson UPS. I asked them to explain, I was told that even if it was a bolt that went to a gun they would not accept it. Pretty weird.

wrong, wrong, wrong...do not do this! your best, hassle free option is take the gun to your local FFL. let them package and ship. approx. cost is $50 - $60 including transfer fee.

I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

No matter how many parts you break it down to the receiver or whatever part the ATF deems the gun is still a gun. The very reason you can't buy a stripped lower receiver and deliver to your house, according to the govt. it's a gun.

Ya'll will learn so much if you'll just go look at the Gun Broker tutorial on the right hand side of the home page it will blow your mind.
UPS- never go to a local FRANCHISE retail store to ship a gun...go to the warehouse AKA Distribution Center and use their retail counter with limited open hours usally after 3pm to 8pm as I recall and you won't have any problems. Biggest problem is the limited hours they are open, but as Syncerus said they'll accept long guns with no issues.
Dunno about FedEx, never used them.
Long Guns only thru USPS and legal shipping to a FFL is written in their Regs so get a copy of them at the Gun Broker Home Page tutorial site and take them with you. BTDT Ron

Straight from the ATF
May I lawfully ship a firearm directly to an out -of-State licensee, or must I have a licensee in my State ship it to him? May the licensee return the firearm to me, even if the shipment is across State lines? Any person may ship firearms directly to a licensee in any State, with no requirement for another licensee to ship the firearm. However, handguns and other concealable firearms are not mailable through the United States Postal Service and must be shipped via private common or contract carrier ( 18 U.S.C. § 1715 ). The USPS and private c ommon or contract carriers may also have additional restrictions on firearms shipments by unlicensed persons. Firearms shipped to FFLs for repair or any other lawful purpose may be returned to the person from whom received without transf erring the firearm through an FFL in the recipient’s State of residence. FFLs may also return a replacement firearm of the same kind and type to the person from whom received (18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(2)(A)). An ATF Form 4473 is required for the return of the firearm, except in instances when a firearm is delivered to a licensee for the sole purpose of repair or customizing , and the same firearm or a replacement firearm is returned to the person from whom received (27 CFR § 478.124(a)).
