These are some Forest Service pics taken Friday 7/28 in western Montana up near the Sunrise/Meadow Creek fire area. The fire started from a lightning strike a week ago and is now 5500 acres. My folks are less than 10 miles north of that area, fire is moving to the east. Gotta be tough on the firefighters...., that's some rough country up there with daytime high temps in the upper 90s. Smokejumpers from Missoula and hotshot crews from several western states are fighting it on the ground, choppers and planes are dropping water and retardant non-stop.

Prayers for the firefighter's safety and a quick put out.

My daughter has sent pictures of smoke from Missoula from the fires in the Bitter Root Mountains. She said Missoula smells like BBQ.
I pray for the firefighters safety. This fire has been going for two weeks now.
I hope your folks stay out of harms way

Nothing much worries me about our place up there - except fire. That one isn't that far away as the crow flies. Hope they get it corralled with minimal damage. Those smokejumpers are men among men (and some women too).

I slept at the base of this range in my tipi last week when it was only 2000 acres and they had canceled air ops thinking they had it contained and didn't need them.

There's several burning there, my brother in law is fighting one now in central Montana and there's a couple smaller ones burning in eastern Montana. They had a really hot summer for them and not much rain.
