Caught this little rascal on a weed bed Texas rigging at Huntsville State Park. He finally got off and I got out of there thinking a bigger one might be next.

Thought about it briefly, but that sob smelled worse than you can imagine and it definetely would have gotten me in trouble there! You are right though. Good eating.

lol, don't net those things, you'll ruin a good dipnet. We catch a lot of them down in the hunting club on the zoom hornytoads.

Hell no I didn't lip him. Tried to get my buddy taking the picture to grab him so I could get my expensive hook back (I am that cheap), but it finally let loose out of his tongue. Pretty cool to see him roll away.

Just slightly illegal...you must be on private property only, using specific legal means & methods to take them and also even though Walker County is open right now, they may not be taken from any public lands. See below

I've had them steal redfish I was reeling in right off the intercoastal, but they were big enough that the line just snapped. Big enough that I was always nervous as hell frog gigging at night, but not big enough to stop me from doing it.

That is way cool! You prob made a good decision on getting out of there. Mama was prob not very far away. Not to mention papa!!

What was that line from Jaws "I think we need a bigger boat"

You should go back with a bigger boat and see if you can catch him again.

Yeah we fish Lake Raven a lot.....there's a bunch of gators in there. We usually see 3-4 every time we go. I've seen 2 that were around 9-10 ft. After seeing those, there's no way in hell I'd fish out of a kayak in there. lol. Your cajones are bigger than mine brother.

We've pulled a couple nice bass outta there though.

We launch out of Bastrop Bayou, which leads us into the bays. There are tons of gators in the bayou and we would see them on our way in at night, since we had a spotlight. Used to throw topwaters and hook up. Pretty fun till you lost a few, some of them would just follow the bait all the way up to the boat, biggest one was a nice 10 footer we saw every night we were out.

Bowhunting them we sometimes use a tactic by using a large topwater lure with a fishing pole. Hooks removed. The shooter positions between the alligator and the person with the fishing pole, then becomes a statue. The person with the pole casts the lure near the alligator and twitches the lure in. Each cast will move the alligator a foot or more due to curiousity or in trying to catch the lure. With patience a Gator can be put in perfect position for a shot by the second person. Sometimes though the caster will mess up, throw too close, and let the gator swim around with the lure for a while waiting for it to let go. Ultimately ruins the hunt for that gator. Thus the reason we remove the hooks. Lotsa fun!

BTW, we used to feed the Alligators at night while fishing off one of the piers at Huntsville State Park. It was popular for those in the know to bring a bag of Marshmallows to throw to them. Those Gators loved them. That was a long time ago and no longer allowed of course.

We did see a few bigger ones as well up on the bank. They are everywhere out there because that lake doesn't have much pressure because no motors are allowed other than trolling motors. My buddy taking the pictures kept trying to convince me to get up close to one of the bigguns so he could snap a picture with me in it. Needless to say, that didn't happen.

Sniper John, that sure looks like fun. I've used the bow for carp, but never a gator.

Nice catch. I threw a bait over the back of one and pulled him close to shore. It freaked out about 10 feet away luckily and didn't attack me. It was bigger than that one.

My son caught one on a scum frog at Lake Osborne in Florida a few years ago. It was about 2 1/2 feet long. I actually unhooked it. I carried it to a small inlet down the bank so we could watch it for a bit when I let it go. Folks in cars kept yelling at me that it was illegal to mess with them. It never snapped at me or anything. It was really calm the whole time. Kinda cool.
