Well boys, I'm headed to Argentina at the end of this month to do some dove hunting with Los Chanares. Very excited about this trip, especially since it is my first Argentinan dove hunt. For those of you that have been in the past, any advice on what to bring that I might not have thought about? It looks like the weather is supposed to be nice, especially since it is winter over there right now. It will be a nice chance from this Houston humidity.

We went in mid February and although I brought a shooting vest with a pad, I didn’t think about the shirt that was under the pad. While you will be shooting 1K to 2K rounds a day you will probably shoulder the gun 3K to 4K times. The sweat mixed with my cheap cotton shirt caused horrible blisters on my shooting shoulder. One of my buddies let me borrow his Under Armour shirt and it was 10 times better. I would also highly recommend a pair of shooting gloves. I was cheap and bought some golf gloves and they worked great.

I brought a shoulder pad but didn't need it. I was wearing a couple layers and shooting a 20 gauge semi auto and it was no problem. I definitely recommend shooting gloves to protect your hands from all the loading and a good shell bag. Here's a couple videos I took to get you pumped up. https://youtu.be/1NCFcAmXqUghttps://youtu.be/rhjTbCJFPmk

agree on the shooting gloves and take a couple of outdoors shirts (like Magelan on sale at Academy) for your bird boys and hard candies (i.e. Life Savers) for them. Don't forget the ibuprofen (shooting and wine pain)!

I have been twice. I seriously over packed the fist time, and consciously trying to cut back, I still over packed the second time.
Unless you also plan on sightseeing or similar stuff while you are there, limit the clothing to what you need for shooting and lounging at the lodge. No need for cammo , just stick with earth tones for shirts, hats, and pants. In August, I wore shorts and sandals to shoot in. I came back with half of what I packed unworn. Forget the heavy duty hunting footwear. Take shoes comfortable to stand in for hours at a time. Maybe a spare pair, incase they get wet. Comfortable hearing protection. Since you are going in the winter, make sure you have a pair of warmer gloves and a lighter pair of gloves. Unless they are leather, you will likely wear the tip of thumb out stuffing shells. Light tint and dark tint shooting glasses. Leave all the electronics, except what you intend to play with on the plane. I did not bother to take a camera the second trip. The video done by the lodge was better than what I could have done.
I took two shooting pads the first time and one the second time. Next year I will not take any...I just did not use them. The light bad my vest was more than enough. The 20 Berettas are soft enough that 4700 rounds in three days did not bother me. My cheek and thumb was sorer than my shoulder.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

I've always wanted to do this, but still on bucket list. How much do you budget for shells? Tips?

Great information guys. Thanks for sharing.
I've got a shooting pad and gloves that I'm taking. Also bringing a pull over and a vest and I think that should get me through the trip. The lows are expected to be in the 40's in the morning, but warming up to the 60's throughout the day.
Do I need to bring a dove belt to store shells in or do the bird boys load for you?

It's a good idea to bring a shell bag for your belt. The bird boys will load your gun if you prefer, but they have other things to do and won't always be by your side. I did most of my own loading and just had him dumping shell boxes into my bag. He was busy enough counting birds, opening shell boxes, grabbing me water or beer and clearing the occasional jam. Also... i found it more helpful having his eyes on the sky pointing out incoming groups. Your neck gets sore with your head on a full time swivel for hours on end.

Well, I have returned. The trip was phenomenal. I highly recommend Los Chanares lodge to anyone that is considering a trip to Argentina. It was absolutely first class all the way around. From the food to the hunting, to the lodge, to the staff, this place did not miss a beat. Our average drive time to the field was less than 10 minutes, excluding one hunt where we drove an hour. But, they had good reason for the long drive as it was nothing short of spectacular. There was a 30 minute window where there were doves as far as you could see in every direction. It's something that you truly have to see to believe.
Overall, our group of 9 hunters killed 13,310 in 6 hunts. On the second day I broke the 1000 mark, which was my goal for the trip. I personally killed 2300 doves shooting a 28 gauge the whole time.

I've gotta go again. We were planning for this spring, but had to cancel. I hate it when life gets in the way of fun. What were they getting for shells this year?

I seen Los Chanares lodge on youtube and its first class. You knocked it out of the park with this lodge.

i didnt read all the thread just took a glance.... but what did you pay for flight?? We bought a hunt at a Delta banquet last year and have yet to go. the flights are crazy unless you want a 20+ hour layover somwhere. Im looking forward to it, it just cost alot more than we where thinking in extras when we bought the hunt. Its for sale if you know anybody wanting to go!! lololol
