So I am having to rebarrel my 300 RUM as the barrel is obliterated. I have decided to go with a 28" carbon wrapped barrel to shave off about 1.5 lbs from the weight. However I cant decide on weither or not to replace my B&C Medalist M40 stock with either a manners elite shell or a mcmillan, both with adjustable cheek rests. All of them are about the same weight all thing considered. What do you guys think, is it worth the extra money for no real weight savings?

K, what is your main focus for this rifle? just long range prone shooting or as a longrange hunting rifle?

If you are REALLY going to use it, REALLY going to use it, then YES a Proof Research barrel and a Mickey A-5 with the Terry Cross adj cheek piece is the way to go.

Why not shoot it with the existing stock and then make the call?

Its main use going forward is going to be chasing elk up in the mountains in places like Montana, so I am trying to maximize velocity and cut weight, hence the 28" carbon barrel. the stocks im looking at will all be in the 2.5-3 lb range, im trying to keep the total rig weight to 10.5-11 lbs if possible without having to replace the 5-25 NF ATACR.

Because the current stock will have to be rebedded, and I would rather pay for just 1 bedding job not 2.

Manners and McMillan are equal quality. Buy which ever one you can get faster.

what action is your RUM?

Its a remington 700 long action, and I just ordered a manners MCS-EH5A for it as mcmillan is out of stock on the stock I like from them.

I just saw where McMillan has a new A-5 out. Its a different material advertised as Every mans McMillan. lower cost . I think it's called the MC3
