Hi all, it's been awhile since I posted anything, but I recently returned from a black bear hunt in Alberta. For anyone interested, I hunted with Sherwood Outfitters and I can't say enough about them. Meals were fantastic, hunting was awesome and the even the fishing was good. It was actually a vacation! The first evening I hunted, I shot this boar. I was in my climber about 30 yards from the bait and I rocked him with a 257 Weatherby and a 100gr TTSX. He ran about 60 yards and piled up. The next day the skinner squared him at 6'9". I had bear hunted twice before, but never had an opportunity. I came out here and shot a decent bear with great hair the first night! I ended up seeing 3 the first night The second night I saw 8 bears. Two beautiful sows with a bunch of cubs. Now, I don't get excited about much, but when the 2 year old cubs starting climbing up my tree and momma bear came to investigate, I was beginning to ponder my life decisions. She was grunting and blowing and doing a great job at making me nervous. She come to the base of my tree and let me take a pic. And the other sow... The third day I had another nice boar come in that was clearly injured. I knew he was a good bear and the humanitarian in me decided it was time for him to go. It turns out he only had 3 paws! I guess it's not uncommon for the bears up there to get them caught in snares. It's too bad, but he was a warrior. He was all cut up from other bears across his face and his shoulders. I'm proud of that dude and he was bigger than my first. He squared at 6-10. Tagged him with a 270 WSM and he only ran maybe 20 yards before expiring. After I filled my tags, I sat in camp for 3 days and snuck out to do a little fishing. Ended up catching a few good ones. All in all, a great trip. I'm already saving for the next trip. Thanks for looking!

Outstanding adventure. Congratulations on your success. Are you going to make them into rugs or mount them?

Thank you for the comments. I'll make a rug out of the first one. I'm still up in the air in the second one. He had a white patch on his chest, so I may do a shoulder mount.

Looks like a great hunt and lifetime of memories.
