I'm hard pressed to even come up with a good reason, but I'm drawn to this rifle in 308. I'd probably only use it for day time hog hunting and maybe some long range target shooting (500 yards is long range for me). It's not available locally, so I haven't even held one yet. Anyone bought this yet that can give me a quick review? Fit, finish, accuracy, feeding, etc.?

Saw one at a gun store outside of Beeville. Metal and wood had a very fine finish. Don't need one either but I durn near bought it just because it was so nice looking.

would it be a better choice than the Browning lever? I have often thought of the Browning in 7mm-08

I'd get a pistol-grip Browning BLR, the ones with no barrel band.

- But that's just me. You should go with what you like best, they are both fine firearms.

Neither one is going to be optimum at truly long ranges, no matter what the marketing hype-sters say.

I have a BLR in 308 Win with a Leupold VX-2 3-9x40. Love it...

I haven't shot the Henry so I can't provide the feedback you seek.

Folks, the post wasn't asking for alternatives.

There is a video on YouTube by gunslinger ( I think) that he is shooting gorilla match from the 308 long ranger and is stacking then at 100 yards.

I am a Henry fan so I would sry ro get it. Lol

My favorite rifle is a lever action. My favorite round is .308. I'll be watching this.

I believe it was right at $800.

BLR? I'd prefer the Henry.

Recently bought our first Henry, 41 mag, and we are very impressed. Great fit and finish and shoots very well. Put a large lever loop on it ourselves and the order and shipping from Henry on the loop were fast, had the loop day before the rifle came in.
Made in USA and family owned company.
Have a BLR and they are a different animal. You will love the Henry.

I need two Henry rifles. .22 mag, and 45-70.

Friend of mine has one in .22 lr. Silky smooth action!

A friend here owns a Henry in 45LC that has had many rounds through it. He has had to replace the cartridge carrier, an internal part which lifts shells up from the magazine tube to the where the bolt can grab them, twice now.

"They were made out of pot metal, and wore out quickly." he said.

Using soft, substandard metal in internal parts will give you a "silky, smooth action" that is unfortunately also subject to more rapid wear. It is nice though, that Henry pays close attention to wood to metal fit. The immediate feel, and the outer appearance of the gun is what sells it.

If you want a modern lever gun that is well engineered and built to last both inside and out, then you'll be better off with a Browning BLR. It is mechanically superior, better made than the knock-off.

Both are fine firearms but there are differences between them, to be sure. They are not anywhere near being the same.

Hunters who shoot infrequently will not notice any longevity issues with the Henry, which will not need to be broken in before it smooths up. Shooters who fire a lot of rounds, appreciate good engineering, or who intend to pass the firearm down to later generations will be better off to invest in the original, the Browning BLR.

I saw one of these at Cabela's two weeks ago. I have a cluster of .308 but definitely a tempting prospect. Good looking walnut but pressed checkering. Metal/wood fit was nice.

I wish stupidity was not so handsomly rewarded.
