Since February I have called at 6-8 different set-ups on several different ranches with a fat goose egg to show for it! I have called and killed many varmints in past but it just seems like I am missing something. I have been using a rabbit distress call at all times of day in areas with plenty of vermin. I usually sit at each spot for 10-20 min before moving. Should I try some different calls? Please help!
Thanks,
TS

same old story.. just keep doin what u are doing.. check the wind, make sure u have a good set up. trying a dif call everynow and then doesnt hurt. I bet u are getting busted before u see them. U might try calling at night. using a spot light. Good luck!

Depending on whether or not the area has been called you can try something completely off the wall. If the cotton tail is not working try a coon fox fight or some other sound that is not common. they may be used to the rabbit

I am definitely not an expert, but when I asked about the same endeavour I was told to call between 30-45 minutes before moving. Again, that is someone else's opinion who knows way more than me! Good luck!

Decoy, change your sound, your call might sound like azz, you dont have to call for 30 or 45 minutes

I found that one call doesn't do it all. I have cottontail, jack, bird and a howler. Sometimes just changing calls brings them in at a lope.

Are you calling with the wind to your back or your face?

Yep aways just like deer hunting. Though sometimes I am in real tight cedar thickets and I wonder if they circle before I see them?

dont blow or turn your call at a high volume. these animals can hear way better than we can. so call first at a mid tone and then very lightly. no more than 30 sec at a time. just b quite when entering the area and try to put yourself down wind from where you want shoot. "wait 10 call a few times and wait 10 more if nothing comes then move 100-200 yards and try again. if this does not work let me know and ill put you on a monster that you will want to mount or tan the hide

if you are hunting high pressured areas you will find out that the sound can make a big difference. the woodpecker is good but not as good as two years ago when i first started using it. now most of my success for coyotes comes from the "coyote pup in distress". but the best advice is PAY ATTENTION TO THE WEATHER. goo luck. www.ultimatepredator.tv

I was told if you have a problem of the yotes coming in try a crow call. it was supposed to put them at ease like there was something actually in a distress. but again just what i heard. my yotes are like pets so i have never tried this idea

+1 on what JBOB said. The fox growl drives yotes crazy around here.

Try three sets when calling (with a fawn/rabbit in distress call) with three to five minutes between. Start your first set low, I have blasted the volume and sent the yote running like he was shot at. Build your volume and call for a short time. The second set needs to be like your putting the rabbit into a blender, really get loud and nasty. On the third set try a confidence call (coyote howler), this should make the yote think someone beat him to the fawn and he'll come a running. Works well for Fox and coon too!

Are you honking too much? Call for 5-10 seconds, then stop for a few minutes. I've never had bad luck, but if I honk on the call excessively, it have fewer results.

I usually only stay in one place about 15 min unless there are cats in the area then i may stay longer I dont change calls very often most of the time i end with the same call i start with, although i do varry the volume. I start at about 1/2 volume for 5 min then to full for 5 and then back to 1/2. always play the wind and camo. I beleive there are alot more coyotes that see and smell us in the woods than we ever see.
