So there I was silently sneaking through the brush (casually walking to check a dry spring). When I heard a rustling. Out steps a pig. I quickly raise the 30-30 and fire, making a perfect shot.(slowly aimed. Heard a loud click from the hammer hitting the safety. Shot hit a little far back.) I began tracking having a hard time getting through the thick stuff. Thats when the twins launched their surprise attack. I hit the first one at 9 feet. The deafening roar of 11 grains of trailboss scare the second one. He then turns , no longer intent on murder. I hit him broadside at 10 feet. (I heard some rustling when they stepped out and froze broadside. Two quick shots and it was over.) I found the 300 lbs sow a 100 yards latter thrashing wildly. She gave it up just before i fired again. (Found a small sow 100lbs at the most dead under a tree.) You just don't understand how dangerous pigs are, until they charge.

unfortunately, your pics aren't showing on my computer...really would have liked to see your 300lb sow (although she would probably be a little pink and more Neanderthal appearing than my typical wild hogs).

The woods were angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to return ammo at academy...

I got about 50 feet into the bush and suddenly the great beast appeared before me. I tell ya she was 10 stories high if she was a foot. As if sensing my presence, She let out a big bellow and I said "easy big fella"...

Edit, finally able to see the pics. Good job on the mama. I figured given the description this was a joke and it was a domestic hog or something....my bad....

It was meant as a joke.

Looks like you had a brush with death when those two furious twins charged you.

Glad you survived that encounter...they can be spooky at times. Some folks say I'm nuts with my hunting, but I just don't shoot those little striped footballs. I've had traps full of them and just can't get myself to dispatch them,I just open the door and send them back into the woods. After the sow is dead, the little ones might not make it on their own, but it's up to them...not me. The land I hunt is not agricultural, and just very dense woods...so I'm not concerned with any damage they might be doing with their rooting.

I shoot any pig I see, but we hunt a working cattle ranch with wheat fields to protect. My wife on the other hand yells at me when I kill the small pigs. I really catch heck if I shoot a small pig and they start squealing. I try to explain they aren''t small for very long,

What about damage they will probably cause on your neighbor's land, think of all the other animals those pigs displace like deer, quail, turkey etc. You not shooting the little ones will certainly increase the damage in the future, you shooting them will help but not to the point where it ruins your fun up Just pork or food for thought nidea

Nice work on the hogs, and a great story!

I shoot them all. As soon as they appear, my deer and turkey disappear. Shot another one this morning. First time I've ever seen them two days in a row.

I was using a Marlin 30aw using a 154 gr hunters supply bullet over 11 grains of trail boss. I was really surprised that it exited the sow. I would have expected a longer trail out of that load and shot placement.

Had a 200+ lb beast charge me at 30 yards in dense cover.

1st reaction - unholster pistol.
1st realization was, I'm not as fast as I thought I'd be in this situation.
2nd reaction - look for escape path
2nd realization - oh sh*t!

Thankfully it turned away from me and after the 10 minutes of adrenaline buzz had worn off; I will neither confirm nor deny the discovery of soiled undergarments.

Be safe out there.

Sh*t can get real in a hurry.

rofl enjoyed the post, reminds me of several of my hunts combined at OSBWMA..
Easing threw the switch cain, & a momma sow bluff charging ta protect the wee ones, before turning & high tailing it...
Two different occasions miss fire with old 30-30 rounds, finally got new rounds...
& chooten at a hog, having it spin around & run straight at me, had to actually side step...
rofl going were no man should go, specialty when ya huntsolo, doing a duckwalk,.& at times on my hands & knees threw thick briar & such trailing a wounded hog...
scratch Thinking if keep pressure, hog will keep moving... Got lucky...
Ya, as pappy once said: ya can call me muyloco crazy, just don't call me lazy ...
Stay safe, it's a jungle out their... flag
