140 Hornady ELD-M
I've put some time behind it recently. It's the best target bullet I've ever used.

If I was going to get into this game, there's a very good chance I'd go with a 6.5 and I think I'd try the Bergers, the Hornady ELD, and the new Nosler RDF. My curiosity would force me to try the 142 LRAB also. Chances are slim I'd ever do it though...too many irons in other fires, and I'm more inclined to play benchrest anyway (and I KNOW that ain't gonna happen).

I am hearing some really good things about the RDF. BC is supposed to be legit. Friend of mine has tried them in 6.5x47 and 308, and says they shoot really well. Of course the ELD-M and Berger Hybrid would be in the running as well. Ultimately the rifle is going to tell you which one, but I bet it would be one of those 3. Or put another way, if the rifle won't shoot one of those 3, then you need to figure out what is wrong with the rifle.

they got me confused Vld can be picky when it comes to oal and can get out of tune with slight changes. Hybrid and classic hunter are much moe forgiving.

Buzz, I bought something like 20,000 of the 140 grain Berger VLD-H bullets direct from Berger many years ago. I committed to this bullet for all my hunting and (mainly) competition/target shooting, and have been very pleased. Once you get it dialed in, it shoots very well. I started out with my 260 Rem with these, and now I'm loading them in a 6.5x47 Lapua. I have tested MANY different bullets side by side in multiple rifles. The Berger bullets have always shot better than others.
On a side note. If you develop a load with a VLD or Hybrid, take measurements of the ogive, and ogive the tip lengths. Berger has seen varying their ogive to tip length on some lots. That was the main reason why I bought so many was to keep the same lot of bullets throughout and didn't have to re-tune my load. The 140 Hybrid was not out then, and I would go the Hybrid route given the option. If you want to make a large purchase, let me know. I get dealer discounts direct with Berger and in 1000 count buckets!

Yes. I've tried Scenars, A-max's, SMK, and the Berger was more consistent and shot tighter further out. I shot a group that was 1 3/8" at 600 yards with the 140 VLD's when I was dialing in my come ups for a match. They just freakin' shoot. I'm not saying those other bullets won't shoot well, because they do. I've just had more consistent groups with the Bergers, once you dial them in.

ELD and Berger is hard to beat. I just don't like the Sierra very much due to bigger variances on the ogive. I use the 123 Sierra MK in the 6.5 x 284 and shoots tight, but the 142 is better due to higher BC
The ELD-M shot so tight that I just ordered 5 boxes of the same lot yesterday.

Checked base to ogive measurement on the last bullet I saved and its .693 and the new lot measurement is .692 Looks like I don't need to adjust seating depth. Time to play with some toys
