Shotgun. I enjoy calling and interacting with the birds.

I hunt with shotgun and bow only, to easy with a rifle and not near the fun or sporting, plus if you don't hit them right with a rifle you could ruin a lot of meat.

First bird or two of the season I use a shotgun. Bow in a pop up blind after that.

Interesting...when considering what to hunt turkeys with this spring I've decided to use a rifle...some of you have said that using a rifle is too easy and not sporting...my perspective is just the opposite...using a shotgun is too easy. I love to squirrel hunt and when I started all I used was a shotgun but it got too easy and not quite as much fun and then I started using a .22 and I was right back to having a blast! When I think of shooting a turkey with a shotgun I think about my squirrel hunting experience. And just so all understand I'll only take neck shots...if I hit then I've gotten a nice trophy...if I miss...I keep hunting! Perhaps I will find out that using a rifle is too hard...
I've only taken one turkey and it was two years ago during deer season with my 6.5 CM...neck shot.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? The best part is getting close. I'm talking about 10-15 yards close. With my scoot n shoot it is less than 2 yards. That's the challenge, not the shot. With a rifle I could neck shoot him at a couple hundred yards. I squirrel hunt and I agree with a 22 as the better way to go.

Usually a shotgun. Take a couple with a rifle. One was during a Nilgai hunt, just happened to see a gobbler I liked. Other was on a day it was pouring rain I and I was feeling lazy. Called from a covered stand. If you put it at the base of the neck you won't ruin much meat.
But, shotgun or bow is way more fun. I try to get them inside of 25 yards.

Red River county only allowed shotguns until this year. Now they have opened it up to bows and crossbows this year.

I carry shotgun and rifle, you never know what you are going to see. I carry the AR along sometimes too for that reason. Not unheard of for pigs to cruise through the set.

Thanks, Never hunted with a shotgun and don't care to. I use a .22, .22 mag, .223, or 22-250 depending on if I'm hunting for hogs at the same time. All my shots are 100-200 yards though.

Here's the way I look at turkey hunting. I have just come out of deer season with a bow...all couped up sitting still in a stand. Once spring is here I'm ready to move around a bit. Runnin and gunnin is my style. You have "almost" no chance to kill a turkey with a bow using that tactic. I ABSOLUTELY DETEST a ground blind with ANY WEAPON or any SEASON. Can't stand sitting in a tent when there is LOTS of springtime activity with lots of animals.
So shotgun it is.

270 wsm on a merriam's in Wyoming. Head shot at 276 yds going away. Couldn't do it again if I tried. Rifle hunting turkeys is harder than with a shotgun, I aim for heads and they are never still.
