So, last year I broke my leg and it's been slow to heal. Finally it's recovered to the stage where I can at least get out with a buddy (to do most of the heavy lifting) and attempt to shoot some hogs. We caught a couple of little piglets in a trap (they were larger than a football, smaller than a watermelon) but the excitement came at night. We had game camera photos showing a sounder coming in to a pig pipe at various times, and decided we would sit out until they showed up. Some nights they came early, sometimes later. The previous night they didn't show until 2:30AM, and we were prepared to wait that long if necessary. Thankfully they arrived at 8:00PM and we got this sow.

She was a bit on the skinny side, which surprised us because the area has had a fair amount of rain and moderate temperatures so far this year. It would seem that there are plenty of food sources available. Her hip bones stuck out to such an extent that I thought she had broken her hip at some time in the past, but apparently she was just thin. We didn't open her up, but she looked to be pregnant. A tape measure behind her forelegs showed 34.5 inches which indicated a weight of around 140 pounds.

We had set out a solar-charged, battery-operated, white light which didn't seem to bother the hogs at all. I hit her in the shoulder, a bit lower than planned. Guess I need to check the sight on my rifle. Rifle was a Browning A-Bolt shooting a 150 grain Hornady Interlock plain ol' cup and core bullet. The cup separated, and we found it. The lead part of the bullet exited. She dropped immediately. I'm hoping to get back out soon!

Excellent! Hopefully this will be the first of many now that you have healed!
