Is trading or selling your firearms to Cabela’s an interesting option? Do they give you a fair price?

Fair to them maybe, but theyll probably only offer 30% of the firearms value.

Depends on the firearm but they will only offer 50-60% of actual value.

Let’s say you want to trade in your Gen3 Glock 26 with night sights in very good condition for a new Gen4 that they’re selling for $550. How much will you have to pay?

So basically they will only pay $300 for a nice G26 Gen3 with night sights.

That's my guess. It's a $500 gun new. Night sights don't add value. They're going to list it for $450 new and take $400 if one of their employees doesn't buy it for $350 out of their inventory. It's not worth taking it in if they can't make at least $100 on it.
Only basing this out of experiences my buddy had while working at BPS Grapevine. He worked the gun counter and gun vault and frequently took in used guns at crazy low prices.

They pay 475.00 for that gun new. They will probably offer you between250.00 and 300.00 for it.

I mean if you are basically wanting to give it away I'm sure I could find a place for it in my safe.

It's a good option from the standpoint that I like to buy stuff there (just got a Colt 1911 CCO Series 70 Gunsite there tonight....but no, they won't give you didley...I've bought many guns there. Never sold or traded a single one there though and never will.

Having worked the gun counter at Cabela's until recently I'll through in my opinion. The Gun Library is no better or worse than any other retail establishment that buys and takes trade-ins on used firearms. There are exceptions but if you want to sell you will be offered wholesale value of the firearm. If it is a popular firearm you could be offered more, a slow seller and you could be offered less. There are also employees that know a lot and could offer you a good bit more for your gun than Bluebook and conversely offer you a good bit less. Generally you will get more if you trade in than if you sell. You will make more money if you advertise and sell your firearm to an individual. That is what I do.
The current Gun Library manager at the Fort Worth Cabela's is Jason. He is a collector himself. Jason KNOWS his stuff. He will not cheat you but you sure aren't going to take advantage of him.
In answer to the question of do they give you a fair price. In general I'd say yes.
Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

From what I've seen, Cabelas is pretty reasonable in terms of store trade or sales. Any store you got to will only give 40-50% on a firearm, they need to keep the lights on.
If you really want a firearm at cabelas then go ahead and trade in your glock. You will obviously get the new firearm same day.
If you have some time, you can make more money selling your glock privately.

I traded one in to gander once just because it wasn't highly desirable and was having a hard time selling it. Oddly enough I paid $500 for it if I remember correctly. Was an older beretta shotgun. Shot it for a year had to have some work done to it and was easily in it for 7-800. Advertised it here and some other places couldn't get a bite. Even though there were others selling for more than I was asking. Long story short I went in there gen they were having the red tag clearance and found a smoking deal on another shotgun but didn't really have the disposable cash to buy it. Took it in expecting next to nothing but they offered $450 for it which I thought was fair. Won't know for sure if you don't take it in. Worst you can do is get an offer you don't have to take it. I'm sure you could get in the neighborhood of 300 trade in. List it here for 400 and I bet it's gone in an hour.

Bottom line, I would exhaust all other options before I would consider trading or selling a gun to a retailer. Sometimes it may be the only or best option - but IMO that is rarely the case.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

You might as well sell it at a pawn shop... No dealers are going to give you a fair price. Sell it on here, texasguntrader, gunbroker, or at a gun show. Secondary market is the only way to get what your gun is worth.

^ This. Cabelas is not a good place to sell a firearm. I really don't get why people still do it.

Secondary market is the only way to get what your gun is worth. I've run across a number of dealers that will give you a fair price, just not retail, they can't and stay in business. I would never sell a gun to a dealer either, too much money is left laying on the table. I asked a bunch of people that came into Cabela's to sell their firearms why they didn't sell them privately. Number one response was too much hassle. Number two was liability issues.

There are many wrong assumptions people have about selling firearms.

I prefer to sell, or trade to a pawn shop. You have no clue if the person you are meeting on the side of the rode is a felon, drug user etc.
