I am looking at a lease in Real County,(by Leaky). I was wondering if anyone has hunted the area before. If so, are there many exotics?

Yes...I have. Depends on were you are at. Axis are almost everywhere...a few fallow around too.

Hunted for 20+ years in Campwood. I've seen Sika, axis, pigs, elk, whitetail, blackbuck and even pics of a snow monkey. As you get closer to Leakey you can add aoudad to the list.

I've hunted a lease north of Leakey for the past several years and have seen many exotics including axis, aoudad, fallow, sika, and various sheep species. We used to see good numbers of axis but believe they were trapped out in our area in the past 2-3 years. The most common species we have now is aoudad, which make fine trophies but aren't the best eating. That's the coolest thing about hunting the Hill Country - you never know what's going to show up next!

I hunted 9 miles north of Leakey for several years.....on the 2k acre low fence ranch I was on, we had: axis, fallow, aoudad, hogs and a few sika. One hunter reported seeing a red stag cow with a tag in her ear one year.

Its been about 8-10 years but been there twice, both times there were herds of Axis in town like deer in Austin.

I own land about 8-9 miles north of Leakey. I've seen just about everything around there. Springbok, axis, wt, blackbuck, fallow, Watusi, zebra. You name it, it probably roams those hills. I'm just about a mile from the west prong of the Frio river. Beautiful scenery too. Neighbors have seen black bear and a mountain lion as well.
